Entente Cordiale anniversary logoThe logo on the right was produced for the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale in 2004.
The Entente Cordiale is more than a simple alliance between Britain and France. It is an agreement between two empires - which includes arrangements to protect British interests in Gibraltar and Egypt, and French interests in Morocco.
The agreement was seen by Germany as an unreasonable restriction on its own imperial ambitions, and this is why it can be seen as a cause of World War 1.
You can read the original text of the agreement at Declaration of the United Kingdom and France Respecting Egypt and Morocco.
