What a host of memories come alive to folk
my age when they look at this photograph of a Green Goddess turning into
Bowring Park - Who can forget the six weeks school holidays and the Penny
Returns - Four rides for one penny. In those days I lived in Clubmoor, and
armed with my bottle of home-made lemonade and sandwiches I would board
the tram to the Pier Head- Gaze in Awe at the transatlantic liners, then
jump on a 6a tram to Bowring Park to enjoy a day in the country with my
lemonade and sandwiches. E-mail from Micheal Farrell I am an exiled Liverpudlian now in my 38
year living and working in Warwickshire in the West Midlands. For all of
my life I have lived and played in the Park. My childhood was spent playing
footie in the Park with the lads from Thornton Road (which backs on to the
Park). The Autumn was spent conkering and getting up to mischief. The 2
Parkies I remember were Bob and Sid always telling me off for riding my
Bike in the no cycling areas! As I grew up the Park became a place for eying
up the local female talent (not very successfully in my case!) I remember
the Putting Green, playing Bowls with my Father on the Bowling Green and
Tennis in the Tennis courts.
