Gladstone Roots is a Heritage Lottery funded project managed by the Friends of court hey park and Knowsley MBC, and was a unique community archaeological investigation to explore the heritage of the Gladstone family in Court Hey Park by excavating the site of the Victorian mansion house. We are keen to provide the community with knowledge of the history of our park. It is not widely known that our park was at one time the home of Robertson Gladstone, elder brother of the Victorian Prime Minister, William Ewart Gladstone. A Grand Mansion house once stood in the park until it's demolition in the 1950's. The Gladstone Roots web site aims to provide a record of events and an online exhibition of artifacts relating to the project. Our archaeological dig was in November 2007 - identification of artefacts found and historical research is now our main objectivefor this project. The Gladstone Roots opening event was held on the 12th of November 2008 - for more information please visit our dedicated web site below. The Gladstone Roots web site is available - here |
