Walk for Health
Had a great time the other day with people from the 'Walk for Health' walk. They usually meet each Monday morning at 11.PM (except 4 holidays) in the NWC car park and then proceed to walk along some of the paths in the park. Participants also enjoy the social benefits of the event and some remarked on the fact that the park is more like hiking through the countryside compared to city streets. The walk is supervised by our local ranger and if you would like more information then please contact 0151 443 3682. Photos opposite.

BBC Radio Merseyside's Nickie and Helen's Summer Saturday
The live show from the National Wildflower Centre was a great success. Nickie and Helen interviewed Friends Chairman Bob Dutton as well as NWC staff. It was great to see lots of people enjoying the sunshine and their local park.

--------------------

Chairman Bob Dutton and I would like to give thanks to the Rainhill Civic Society for their hospitality. Bob gave a talk about the history of court hey park and the Gladstone Roots Project. Please visit their web site for a really good virtual tour of Rainhill and learn more about the history of the area. Rainhill Civic Society.

Click here for the new Gladstone Roots web site

The Gladstone Roots archaeological site now has a number of gabion blocks outlining the walls of a section of the original Gladstone Hall - picture opposite.

--------------------

Childwall Brook is to be diverted in the future to help prevent flooding and possible collapse of the rear gardens of the houses backing onto the brook. Trees and bushes have been cut down to clear the area prior to work.

--------------------

Landlife, the wildflower conservation charity based in the National Wildflower Centre here in our park, are planning to re-sow areas of the park to create unique wildflower displays again in 2008.

--------------------

Many thanks to all those that stop and pick up the odd bit of litter in our park - every bit helps!

--------------------

Roby Residents Voice are a new community group in the area and have a web page of their aims and activities here. Please pick up a copy of their newsletter, Roby Residents Voice from the cafe.
