We are situated in a large Community Centre, In Hoylake,
which is a small town on the Wirral Peninsula, England. Our Centre
overlooks one of the finest golden sand beaches in the North West.
Within the centre we have 3 rooms, one being the large Coffee-bar,
the 2nd being a large lounge, and last but not least the Cyber Room,
which has now got 8 multimedia P.C's all networked together, and all
with direct access to the Internet.
We have been open since April 2nd 1998, and now have
a membership of 230 local youths ranging from 10 to 17 yrs. All the
computers have been donated by various companies, both large and small,
and all the other equipment has been purchased from donations given
to this totally unique venture.
The idea for the Cyber-Café was born after the 2 community
bobbies Peter Whitehouse and Dave McGarvie, patrolled the area and
were constantly being told by the youth that there was nothing for
them to do. So they had a brainstorming session, and came up with
the idea of the Café, they then set about getting all the equipment,
and within just 6 weeks they opened the doors, over this last year
the numbers of youths using the café has risen from an average of
30 a night for the 2 nights a week we open, to an average now of 55
each night. As well as Peter & Dave, there are also a number of helpers
who turn out each week to run the place. We can say in total honesty
that without them we Couldn't stay open, Thanks to you all.
