Dropped a message from the sky "Help!" said I, wiping my eye What a blessing pigs can't fly!"
![]() You have to admit, they are totally gorgeous. Insanely gorgeous, in my opinion, but "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" at the end of the day. That snuffling snout (see my snout page guardians site), that curling tail, those drooping ears; everything about them is irresistable! Pigs are only beaten by dachshunds, aka sausage dogs. This picture is the "best" of both worlds!

A beautiful princess was one day walking along a country road when she saw a large pig sitting on the grass verge. Being of a kindly nature, she stopped to speak to it. "Hullo, piggy," she said with a smile. "Hi," said the pig. "Though actually I'm a handsome youth. I upset the local witch, with the results you can see." "What did you say to her?" asked the princess.
"I called her a dirty, smelly, evil old bag," said the pig. "So she put a spell on me. 'Only a kiss from a beautiful princess can change things now', she said, and off she went, cackling with laughter."
If ever you visit another country and you feel the need to say 'oink-oink' then just consult my multi-linguist pig guide below! We say 'oink', they say... (in handy alphabetical order...)
Afrikaans: oink-oink Student: Any pig must have three tails. Teacher: That's silly, of course it hasn't. Student: Look at it this way. Any pig has more tails than no pig, right? Teacher: Ye-es. Student: And no pig has two tails, right? Teacher: Yup. Student: So any pig must have three tails! Pigs are already well established in the record books, unlike any other animal except dog; "Bud" (I wonder what country that could have been born in? Lol!), a crossbred barrow pig from Texas, was bought in March 1983 for a record $56,000! In 1961 a pig in Denmark gave birth to thirty four piglets in on litter! But, in 1979 a remarkable 30 LIVE (non stillborn) piglets were born to a British White Wessex sow in Hertfordshire - thats the highest number in Britain! The heaviest recorded piglet at weaning (about eight weeks old) was a boar from a Yorkshire litter of nine. He weighed 36.7 kg (81lb) - what a whopper! In contrast, the mini Maialino is the smallest breed of pig and was developed in Italy after years of interbreeding Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs. At birth this tiny pig usually weighs around 400g (less than a small bag of flour!) When fully grown it still only weighs 9kg (20lb). The heaviest pig in the world was a Poland-China hog named "Big Bill". Bill was due to be exhibited at the 1933 Chicago World Fair when he broke a leg and had to be put down. It's probably just as well as Big Bill tipped the scales at an amazing 1157.5kg (2552lb) and was so fat his belly dragged along the ground. Big Bill was stuffed and for a while exhibited for some time in Tennessee. he then passed to a travelling carnival and later mysteriously dissapeared... ...some pig!
