Slicer

The Slicer is a agent who works the shadows and background, rarely seen by any, unless their business brings them together. He is the master of technology and information, most important among his skills is his ability to encrypt communications and slice the codes of others.

Slicers often feel more comfortable with technology rather than people or other living beings, while a few prefer complete isolation and forgo even a droid for companionship. Many Slicers do what they do out need for intellectual challenge, they enjoy pitting their wits against another's code in a battle of minds and data. Others however do what they do out of patriotism or as the means to an end, where that end is usually a large pay off, usually from an underworld source. Many Slicers are obsessed with their own cleverness and often have ego signatures they leave at the seen of one of their escapades. In part this is so that credit is give where credit is due and other times its to up the anti and increase the adrenaline of staying one step ahead of those who's toes you've stepped on in the past.

Era Notes: The Slicer is a feature of any Star Wars Era, though rarely seen and often over looked. During the Old Republic Slicers found employment through the diplomatic core of the senate as rivals paid highly for information about their rivals. During the Rebellion Era Slicers were employed by both the Empire and the Alliance to secure their information, encode transitions, and break the codes used by adversaries. Slicers even found a place among the fringe elements, criminals and scumbags. With the rise of the New Jedi Order business is still booming for Slicers and they can be found in all walks of life working for any who can pay their fees.

Skill Emphasis
At 1st and 7th levels the slicer gains the bonus feat Skill Emphasis. This feat may be applied to any class skill. The slicer may not select the same skill twice.

Gadgeter
At 2nd level the slicer custom builds many of his own tools, whenever he makes use of his own customised tool kit (not one belonging to anyone else) he gains an additional bonus to the task at had equal to this Wisdom bonus.

Cipher
At 3rd level the slicer can create and break codes of incredible complexity. This ability gives him a bonus of +5 on all code making and breaking checks.

Run a Bypass
At 4th level the slicer is adept at quickly assessing the best way to deal with technological security measures, like hot-wiring blast doors. He gains a +5 bonus on any attempt to circumvent technological security systems, including computer codes.

Ingenuity
At 5th level the slicer has a tendency to do things his own way rather than following the manual. Using his own ingenuity grants the slicer a bonus, equal to his Intelligence bonus, on all future repairs and modifications to that piece of gear or code, halves the time required to do the job. However anyone else trying to repair or modify this piece of gear or code must take twice as long and suffers a penalty equal to the engineers Intelligence bonus (this is a common problem with Verpine Engineers).

Intellectual Challenge
At 6th and 9th level the slicer adds +1 to his Intelligence attribute.

Skill Mastery
At 8th level the slicer can pick a skill in which he already has a Skill Emphasis. In doing so he increases the normal +3 bonus to a +6 bonus with this skill. Skill Mastery can only be taken once for each Skill in which he already has a Skill Emphasis.

Master Cipher
At 10th level the slicer is one of the few greatest code makers and breakers in the galaxy. He gains a +10 bonus on all code making and breaking checks.
