In January of 1972, following tank testing, the shape of the 36 Hull was modified. This consisted in the main of alterations to the length and width of the chine rails, the skeg was given a more aerofoil shape and extended further toward the stern and the fuel and water tanks were moved further aft. Early engine examples included Ford, Bedford, Perkins etc. in the main though Perkins became the norm with the 350 (2 x 175s) or the 290 with its twin 145s being the standard power units.

The Hull numbering system which originally appeared a fool proof method of determining the age of an individual craft is now under some scrutiny. Moonraker historian `Barry Greenwood` is, as I write, looking in to some anomalies with said system and Barry asks that members check the build date, if known, with the build number on the bulkhead. He is looking for concurrent numbers which coincide with a series change. When this happens the mystery may be solved.

The more we learn the more we know so please, if you have information on this, or any historical aspect of our crafts, do leave a message on the active page.
