Cichlasoma Breidohri Red fighting a Nicaragua. I haven't got a clue what a Breidohri is, although it appears to be a central American cichlasoma type. I believe that this is a male because I had a pair and the other conformed to central american female characteristics. She died quite early on so I was unable to breed them.

A Red Devil (Labiatum) and a Jack Dempsey ganging up on a Texas. There are supposed to be two types of 'Texas' cichlids. A pale blue Cichlasoma cyanoguttatum and a darker blue C. carpinte. Some people call the carpinte a Texas cichlid, and the cyanoguttatum a Cuban cichlid.

A tug o' war between a Red Devil (Labiatum) and a Jack Dempsey. At this stage the Dempsey used to win, but later the devil grew larger and was then able to win skirmishes. The fishes seemed to tolerate each other well and there was never any harm done during their fights. The female Jaguar, however, was very antagonistic so the others just ganged up on her. One day, between them, they ripped off her bottom lip. It didn't cure her of taking them on though.

A close-up shot of a tug o' war between the Red Devil and the Jack Dempsey males. Here the Dempsey has got a good grip on both the Devil's lips. These mouth-wrestling bouts used to last for about five minutes, sometimes longer. After a short rest they would often start again.

The same Red Devil having a go at the Texas. You can tell who the trouble-maker was - that darn Red Devil!
