This web site, which is part of describes my collection of celebration beer bottles. Originally, I had a small collection of special celebration brews which grew when I started a collection of Queen's Silver Jubilee beer bottles in 1977, and progressed to the Royal Wedding beers commemorating the marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana in 1981. Along the way I also collected any other interesting beers which were specially brewed for commemorative reasons. Eventually, the collection became too large and only a very small number of beers were collected after about 1985. Two house moves since then have reminded me of how right I was to quit while the going was good!
I collected most of the bottles by travelling across England, into Wales, and up as far as the lake district on several 'fact-finding' tours. Fact-finding consisted of drinking which ever local real beer took our fancy and I arranged with my wife to alternate daily between driving and fact-finding! Armed with the CAMRA guide we set off with a number of swaps in the boot and stopped at many pubs and breweries to make purchases or swap from our spares. I also ordered some bottles by mail order (in particular the Channel Island brewers who were all very helpful) and also found a couple of off-licences where the proprietor was also a collector.
I hope you enjoy reading some of the information contained within these pages, and in particular I hope that you will view my photograph collection. I have made thumb-print photos which load quite quickly, but by clicking on one of the thumbprints a larger, better quality photo will be downloaded.
If you would like some more information, or more importantly if you have any information to share, then please feel free to e-mail me (see the index page for a Write Me button). I may not have time to write more than a short reply, but I will do my best. |
