In virtually every country there are disabled people, the degree of disability can vary from a minor disadvantage right though to a major disabilitating ailment. Some disabilities are of course terminal. Do the disabled really have to protest, just to receive proper care?

Support for the disabled varies from country to country, they all have one thing in common. Lack of support and help. The USA recently CUT benefits paid, the UK government is also checking every single claimant continually. Help with heating and other costs were removed by the UK Government in 1998, representing a loss of £150 a year.

There is help out there, financial, medical and emotional, but locating that help when your not well can be a virtual nightmare, even on the internet.

There are thousands of charities, sadly many do not provide the sort of help that is really needed, some do provide a useful service, such as Dial UK, to name but one.

DDLG was born through a need, a real need to provide help, support and information for the disabled, their carers, families and friends.

Although we began by providing support through direct data connection (BBS), DDLG has grown with data communications and now provides help and support though our internet site and email.

While our site contains a vast volume of ever evolving information, we also provide personal support via email, the fact someone cares and listens can mean so much to those who feel ill most of the time. Just talking  to someone helps a great many too.

We help by seeking out specific information, as well as providing tuition in a variety of subjects. Those we help educationally range from school age needing help say, with a school project, right though to pre graduates in higher education.

Of course we do help medically if we can, but we are not doctors or nurses, but we can contact profesionals all over the world who have agreed to help.

This service is provided to all who need it without prejudice, I started DDLG, which is constituted as a club, some 18 years ago. I now finance the service, internet, phone, computer replacement & maintenance, postage, office equipment myself.

In the 6 years we have had this page on our service, we have only received 5 offers of help, besides those offers from profesionals offering to donate their expertise.
The year 2002, saw our service have over 170,000 visitors, some 95,000 from June to October alone. We are really surprised to see how so many expect so much support from so few, for so little.

This page had 55811 visitors in the first 10 months of the year 2002, we had one offer of help in that period.

We feel that the need for our service still exists, we will still continue to support those that need our help, but we do ask those who use our service to try harder to help others too.
