CHAIRMANS REPORT 1947

DEAL, WALMER AND KINGSDOWN ROYAL REGATTA ASSOCIATION.

RETROSPECT

It is twenty years since this Regatta was revived it is nine years since we held it.
In August, 1939, we were all ready for a Regatta and had to put it off.
What we went through in the following years is too fresh in our minds to be recalled.
Suffice it to say, thanks be to God for such preservation as we have had and that
we are able to hold a full dress Regatta again, even without a Pier.
There have been many races in the intervening years, with no programmes,
no starting times, no prizes but the glory of self-sacrifice.
Let us never forget the epic of Dunkirk, a heroic - mammoth race in which
an army was rescued from death to victory, the daring raids on Dieppe and St. Nazaire
and the immortal landing on the beaches of Normandy.

To the Deal Rowing Club we would say,
well rowed G. Newing, N. Cohen, F. Franklin, H. Little,
S. Jones, H. Brumell, Tim McManus. Farewell!

At the going down of the tide - and at the rising - we remember You.
