CENTENARY PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY

The Centenary Committee have been hard at work organising events to celebrate the Centenary. See the Centenary Events page for full details of the ringing, dinner and church service for the weekend of 20th November.

TUNSTALL VICTORIOUS IN THE 6-BELL STRIKING COMPETITION

On Saturday, 15th May, 1999, the Tunstall Society were again victorious in the final of the Rochester District 6-bell Striking Competition, beating the bands from Hoo St Werburgh, Wouldham and Frinsted and retaining the trophy. They will now go on to represent the District in the Kent County Association 6-Bell Striking Competition at Yalding in September.

A NEW TREASURER IS ELECTED

Following the AGM of the Tunstall Society on 14th May, 1999, Helen Gigney was elected the new treasurer. Helen succeeds John Wood who served as Treasurer for 4 years and managed the accounts during the years of the appeal for the recasting of the bells.

CENTENARY COMMITTEE IS FORMED

The AGM appointed a committee of 4 members to co-ordinate the activities surrounding the Centenary, culminating in the Dinner on 20th November. These activities will be posted to the Centenary Page in due course.

FACULTY FOR SOUND CONTROL SOUGHT

A faculty from the Diocese of Canterbury is being sought to permit the construction of fully variable sound control in the belfry. It is hoped that the sound control, designed by Roger Pocock, will render the bells inaudible outside the church yard. However, when the shutters are open (which will be most of the time - for Sunday ringing, Friday practices, visiting bands and 4 peals a year) the bells will continue to sing across the fields and across Sittingbourne.
