We live in Nursling, which is about four miles to the north west of Southampton. There has been a village here for a very long time (which used to be called Nutshalling until the middle of last century - a word which still endures in local street and house names), but it is now just about part of Southampton. The latest new housing, where we live, was added in 1997-98.

When this page was first started, Nursling didn't seem to have much of a presence on the web. The situation is changing, although any attempt to use a search engine to find Nursling links always results in (a) lots of mis-matches to medical or parenting sites and literature quotations, all concerned with 'nurslings' ie. infants (b) a worrying number of mis-spellings of 'nursing' and (c) links to businesses, particularly those based on Nursling Industrial Estate. Here are a selection of the remainder:
A nice Nursling link - history with photos - on the Hampshire Scene 'Hampshire Villages' site, including some history about St. Boniface (below).
Twin Spires is the home page of the two Anglican churches in the parish and includes a parish profile, with photos. By far the oldest is St. Boniface, and web sites about him account for a lot of the mentions of Nursling on the web - usually in old variant spellings ('Nhutscelle', 'Notesselinge', etc.)
It has an entry in the Roman map of Britain...
'A concise illustrated history of an ancient community in Hampshire, England' including a much nicer satellite image than the Spin image I've linked above, although the resolution isn't as good. Also some more Nineteenth Century mapping.
The Parish of Nursling and Rownhams falls within Test Valley District.
Nursling isn't actually part of the City of Southampton, but is effectively a Southampton suburb, so this page tells you a bit about what's going on over the border.
Romsey is about the same distance away as the centre of Southampton, but in the opposite direction. Nursling looks Romsey-wards for local government, school catchments etc.
North Baddesley is even closer.
We are in the county of Hampshire, and this page provides lots of searchable information on the county, including local services.
