History of the farm.
Dowlands farm was originally built in the 18th century and was
further extended in 1856. It is now a working sheep dairy farm,
set in 17 acres, reached by a winding country lane yet only 10
minutes by car from Gatwick Airport and 35 minutes from London by
train.
The double room features original black beams and an attractive
marble fireplace. Additional beds can be provided for children.
This room overlooks our farmyard and fields beyond. The shower
room was originally, in Edwardian time, a Hat Room for the lady
of the house to store the rather large hats that were worn in
those times.
The twin bedded room is Victorian and was added to the existing
building in 1856. It has typical high ceilings and again a large
marble fireplace. The room contains two single beds and further
beds can be provided for children. This room overlooks
neighbouring fields.
Both rooms have en suite shower/toilet facilities, central
heating , remote colour T.V., tea/coffee making facilities,
electric fans, and thermostatically controlled central heating.
It is rumoured that one of the original owners of Dowlands Farm
was the owner of one of Britain's largest biscuit manufacturers
who rather liked his drink, and to enable him to get on his
horse, whilst in a state of drunkenness, he had built a mounting
block, which can be found in the yard at the house.
