No planet is so rich in Federation History as the Class-M world called Earth. And no species figures so prominently in Federation history as Humankind.
Throughout their early history, humans were driven by the impulse to possess and acquire land. It was this same instinct that propelled mankind into space some four hundred years ago. By the dawning of the Twenty-first century, humans had begun to put aside their hunger for territory in favor of a hunger for knowledge.
At the same time, human civilisation rose above the bloody internecine conflicts that had plagued it since its beginnings-conflicts included Three worldwide altercations and the nearly devastating Eugenics wars in the Twentieth century alone.
In 2161, when the United Federation of Planets was founded, earth became the organisations home base. The Council buildings and Starfleet Acadamy still stand near San Franciscos Golden Gate Bridge, shining tributes to the Federations governing principles of cooperation and tolerance.
Tourists are encouraged to stroll through the gardens between Starfleet Command and the Academy buildings. There are many memorial markers dotting the grounds. The most visited memorial is the one for James T. Kirk, an Academy Alumnus and venerated Starfleet Captain and Admiral.
The Federation Council is also located in San Francisco. Its chambers are open to visitors for several hours every day, even when the council are in session. The only exceptions are those times when Federation Security Issues are being discussed.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
The Atlantis Project
An effort to create a small continent in the middle of earths Atlantic Ocean-in effect,a terraforming project in miniature. As it is rare for the casual observer to see terraforming in action, a visit here is highly recommended.
Angel Falls
Located in South-Eastern Venezuela, this is the highest waterfall on Earth. A fine spot for a romantic Interlude.
Yosemite National Park
Set aside as a Nature preserve in 1890, this is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Dont miss El Capitan, a massive monolithic mountain with a sheer granite face almost two kilometres high.
Cambridge University
An educational facility, founded almost 1200 Hundred years ago in the British Isles Much important work has been done there in the eares of Mathematics and Physics, including Isaac Newtons "Opticks", Dirac's theories on the existence of Positrons, and Stephen Hawkings quantum theory of Gravity.
Starfleet Headquarters and Starfleet Academy
These two sites are open to visitors every day of the year. Cadet-guided tours are also available. The weather is almost always pleasant, though fog may be a factor to take into account.
The Federation Council Chambers
The Chambers are always open to visitors. They are most interesting when the council is in session, otherwise there is very little else to see.
RESTAURANTS
Ping Chew
This Beijing restaurant was once a Mandarin palace and has now been converted into a beautiful restaurant. The menu is an imaginative treatment of traditional Chinese dishes. Our favourites were the Beijing Duck with Ginger Marrow and the Emperors Choice (hacked Chicken with a half-dozen unusual dipping sauces)
Sisko's Creole Kitchen
This famous place, located in New Orleans offers a casual atmosphere and some of the best food found in the Quadrant!.........but dont take our word for it. See for yourself.
The Low Note
Also located in New Orleans. The food isnt bad here, in fact its more than above avergae, but it is overshadowed but the quality of the jazz and the seductive ambience.
The Cafe des Artistes
Located in Paris. Set in the outdoors, this restaurant features a marvellous view of the Eiffel Tower, and such tongue-in-cheek house specialities as Croissants D'ilithium, Klingon Targ a'la Mode, L'antimatter Flambe, and Tribbles dans les Blankettes. Would that the chef were as skiled as he is humorous, and would that the staff were as polite as they are eager to be tipped. But then again, thats the French for you.
Chez Sandrine
Located in Marseilles, this is a homey place with an excellent wine list. Sandrine, the proprietress, will point you to the best dishes on the menu. Unfortunately a large portion of the clientele is made up of Starfleet Cadets.
LODGINGS
The Kremlin
Once the seat of government for the Union Of Soviet Socialist Republics, is now the finest Hotel on Earth! The "downtrodden" staff likes to joke about how things will be "after the revolution"
The House of Ra
In what was once Egypt, the House of ra offers an inspiring view of the Ancient Pyramids, which were burial vaults for the Egyptian Monarchs. Our advice? See the pyramids-but stay somewhere else less pricey
