"Awards For All" grant details

The Thames Valley Climbing Club has successfully applied for a grant from "Awards for All". In 2000 TVCC was successful in obtaining a grant with the aim of increasing participation and membership. By training current TVCC members to become qualified climbing instructors we could run our own courses and therefore increase membership. This new award is aiming to build on this successful project.

The new grant consists of 2 main areas that are aimed at offering more beginners courses to increase membership, and offer development opportunities for current members. The following outlines these developement opportunities for the current membership.

• Single Pitch Award - climbing instructor training.
  To encourage members who are interested in becoming SPA trained instructors to put their names forward. They should be willing to assist in running the club beginners courses. The SPA course requires joining the Mountain Leader Training Scheme & completing a logbook with climbing & leading experience and assisting teaching climbing before acceptance on the course. (The assessment can be taken after at least 1 year of continued log book experience of personal climbing & experience of teaching climbing.)
• Child Protection Training.
  It is an obligation of the successful grant application that the club has members trained in child protection issues. A half day of training aimed at those helping youngsters to climb or helping on our courses.
• First Aid Training.
  Single Pitch Award holders need to hold a current 16 hour first aid certificate. (Valid 3 years)

Applicants should be willing to be part of the ethos of the bid, which is to both widen the skills of current members and to use these skills for the benefit of the club, increasing membership & participation. Those who wish to apply should complete a club application, stating what they were interested in. There should be some financial commitment from participants, as well as the commitment to assist with beginners.
