ECR - Experimental Consciousness Research: Experiential Consciousness Restoration

For the last five years E.C.R. has initiated an experientially based approach to consciousness research. From the ongoing development of techniques aimed at sustainably inducing or restoring full neural/consciousness function, has emerged a theoretical framework for re-interpreting human evolution. Partly based on insights gained from the same experimental techniques, a picture is emerging that does not seem to contradict the observations from modern or ancient science. Whilst the tentative conclusions may be seen as somewhat extreme they do apparently shed light on a whole range of seemingly intractable problems. What is being proposed is an holistic model of consciousness that can lead to a rapid and profound experiential shift in the way we perceive who or what we are.

However, all is not rosy in the garden. E.C.R.'s independent research has survived on a threadbare financial shoestring, with minimal human resources. In order to hold things together some finances are desperately needed.

Update: Beyond The Garden Shed? - March 2001

As it is increasingly apparent that the embryonic ideas that emerged and evolved over the last few years have not proved so easy to dismiss and as support continues to grow it now seems appropriate to consider putting this research on firmer foundations. Trying to build a space ship in ones garden shed is all well and good, however there comes a point at which it has to be further developed, tested and refined where necessary, then who knows maybe it will even fly. A range of options that will move things along to various degrees are outlined below, all require some amount of support and finance. Any help, particularly in developing a sustainable funding strategy would much appreciated. Establishing a trust fund may be an option under development soon.

The aim this year is to complete some of the following and make a start on the rest where funding permits:-

• Write, publish and present a number of papers dealing with specific elements of the central biology. (Already under way)
• Write and publish a concise academic summary of the complete hypothesis.
• Write and publish a laypersons guide to the central and peripheral aspects of the picture to date. (Already under way)
• Create a comprehensive easy to follow web site based on mind maps. (Some preliminary work done)
• Solicit professional assistance with the huge area of researching current and archive material that is relevant. (If funding is available)
• Re run Manchester experiment with bio-chemical assays- insufficient funding meant a unique opportunity to correlate specific long-term nutrition with elimination of sleep, increasing function and a possible change in endocrine activity was missed. Though results were unique, they could have provided undeniable evidence of the partial re-emergence of a wholly different state of being.
• Purchase lab time to run EEG tests during some of the repeated subjective states that have emerged and have been readily repeatable under specific conditions in several volunteers over the last 5 years. (If funding is available)
• Acquire, equip and run a facility to test and develop the core elements of the picture to date to obviate the need to rely on the occasional help of sympathetic academics. Obviously this would incur significant costs, however, considering the questions being raised it may be time to consider such a move.
• Solicit professional fund raising assistance.

The complete running costs incurred since 95 have amounted to c £50,000 with current debts and loans of c £18,000. The much-appreciated donations and loans have amounted to c£15,000. This has kept things afloat though at times only just.

To move beyond a shoestring survival budget it would be useful to raise a minimum of £60,000 this year to implement at least some of what could be done.

N.B. ----- A couple of questions for students and practitioners of the spagyric art. Why historically was such an approach required? What specific underlying causation gave rise to symptoms that were treatable in part with a noble/stable element? Comments welcome.
