MTV To Air Purple Pills

After several days of negotiations with Eminem's record company, music station MTV has agreed to air the Purple Pills video by Eminem's rap proteges D-12 but only during overnight hours. The network will begin showing the video next week. The station had originally banned the video because of its references to drugs. In the song Eminem sings: 'I take a couple of uppers, I down a couple of downers. Nothing compares the blue and yellow purple pills.'Purple Pills has already been re-named Purple Hills with several of the expletives taken out for airplay on Radio 1. The controversy hasn't harmed sales of D-12's debut album Devil's Night which has entered the US Billboard charts at No 1 this week.Meanwhile a Macomb County judge has denied a request by Eminem's mother to reconsider a lawsuit settlement. A judge has denied her the right to sue her son for more than the 163;20,000 agreed between her lawyers and the rapper's lawyers. Debbie Mathers Briggs had originally filed a 163;9m lawsuit claiming that Eminem had defamed her in his lyrics and interviews. (27 June, 2001)

The album shifted just under 372,000 units, according to SoundScan data. Variety 27/06/01

RAPPIN' ABOUT RAP!

EMINEM, WILL SMITH, JAY-Z and QUEEN LATIFAH are due to attend rap supremo RUSSELL SIMMONS Hiphop Conference in NEW YORK's HILTON HOTEL today (June 13).

The stars will see the Rev Louis Farrakan, leader of the Nation Of Islam, deliver a keynote address at the event, designed to allow hiphop artists, record executives, politicians and journalists debate and swap ideas about hiphop, its role inside the music industry and its wider social influence.

They follow Puff Daddy, Scarface, Chuck D, Talib Kweli, Luther 'Luke' Campbell and the Wu-Tang Clan's U-God, who attended yesterday. A number of high profile congressmen also spoke yesterday, the majority of whom dealt with issues around the regulation of hiphop.

One of them, Earl Hilliard pressed for a level of self-regulation, advising the industry to adopt a voluntary ratings system similar to that used in film.

"We do not know the hiphop generation. We do not know the hiphop industry," he said. "We feel that those who know themselves and those that know the industry can regulate it better."

Puff Daddy slipped in quietly yesterday and attended a closed door event, rather than the regular debates.NME 13/6/01

FCC Fines Radio Station for Eminem Song

FCC FINES RADIO STATION FOR EMINEM SONG ---

By Pamela McClintock

WASHINGTON (Variety) - Federal regulators have slapped a Colorado radio station with a $7,000 indecency fine for playing Eminem's "The Real Slim Shady," even though the provocative and raunchy ditty was edited for the airwaves.

The Federal Communications Commission's June 1 order is sure to spark alarm among program directors, who generally assume that a label's edited version provides immunity from obscenity and indecency rules.

In the case of KKMG-FM in Colorado Springs, the FCC said the station must be brought to bear for playing the Eminem tune, even if the version played was toned down for air.

Citadel Communications, parent company of KKMG, told the FCC that the station was not in violation of any rule, since various expletives were deleted in the edited version provided by Interscope Records.

Not good enough, according to the FCC.

"The edited version of the song contains unmistakable offensive sexual references. In this regard, portions of the lyrics contain sexual references in conjunction with sexual expletives that appear intended to pander and shock," the FCC said.

Fine comes less than two months after the FCC issued new guidelines to be used when determining what is obscene and indecent. These guidelines made it clear that innuendo is a factor, even if specific expletives are missing.

Indecency has long been defined by the FCC as broadcast programming that describes or depicts sexual or excretory organs or activities. Agency is allowed to take complaints from the public on indecent material and act upon them, albeit with restrictions as it's still protected speech under the First Amendment.

Recording Industry Assn. of America topper Hilary Rosen asserted that the airing of the "Slim Shady" radio edit falls squarely under that protection.

"It would be a disgrace if the FCC were to impose a violation on a radio station because they didn't like the 'suggestive' nature of a song." Rosen told Daily Variety. "That goes right to the heart of idea-based censorship."

The FCC's ban on patently offensive broadcasts runs from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., the hours when kids are most likely to be tuning in.

Citadel made no excuses for repeatedly playing the edited song throughout the summer and spring of 2000, at all hours.

The track in question, actually one of the tamest offerings on the "Marshal Mathers LP," Eminem's latest Interscope release, nonetheless includes numerous references to acts of violent misogyny and graphic sex.

Wiley, Rein & Fielding attorney Kathleen Kirby, who represents Citadel, said the $7,000 fine could set a risky precedent for the countless other radio stations across the country which have played the same edited Eminem song.

"The danger involved is that folks at the station level can't take comfort in the fact that something labeled 'radio edit version' is in compliance with the FCC's rules," Kirby said.

Interscope reps were not available for comment.

EMINEM MOM'S HOPES TO GET MORE OUT OF SUITS AGAINST HIM DASHED---

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) — A judge has denied a request by Eminem's mother to collect more money for settling a pair of lawsuits against the rap superstar.

Debbie R. Mathers-Briggs tried to change attorneys and protest efforts forcing her into a settlement of $25,000 in her claims against her son, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III.

"It's clearly a settlement," Macomb County Circuit Judge Mark S. Switalski ruled on Monday. "If someone feels remorse subsequent to it, that doesn't change that it is a settlement, established in writing by agents of the parties."

The judge ruled that Mathers-Briggs, who initially sued for $12 million, had abandoned her legal standing to jockey for more money.

Her new lawyer said the $25,000 settlement is invalid.

"She didn't sign anything, and this so-called settlement went through after she'd already written a letter attempting to fire her attorney," Michael Marsalese said.

Mathers-Briggs filed two defamation lawsuits over Eminem's statements in magazines and radio talk-show interviews that portray her as an unstable, lawsuit-happy drug user who moved about aimlessly during the rapper's formative years. She sued for $10 million in 1999 and an estimated $2 million last year.

"Debbie dropped the lawsuit because she wanted to try reconciling with her son," Mathers-Briggs' mother, Betty Kresin of St. Joseph, Mo., told The Macomb Daily. "But then she's told me she wants to bring it back, and then she doesn't, and I don't know what's going on."

Eminem was to appear Tuesday in Oakland County Circuit Court for sentencing on a weapons possession charge, but the hearing was postponed because the judge's docket was full.

The 28-year-old rapper faces sentencing after pleading no contest to a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon and a misdemeanor charge of brandishing a weapon during a fight with a rival Detroit rap group.

Oakland County Circuit Judge Denise Langford Morris has said she is unlikely to consider jail time for the Grammy winner. COURTTV

JUDGE DELAYS SENTENCING FOR EMINEM ---

Sentencing in Oakland Circuit Court for Clinton Township rapper Eminem has been postponed until June 27. The sentencing was scheduled for today, but had to be adjourned because Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Denise Langford Morris has a full docket. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, is expected to receive probation after pleading no contest to a concealed weapons charge earlier this year in the Oakland County case. Eminem was charged last June after brandishing a handgun during a confrontation with a rival rap group outside a Royal Oak stereo shop. Eminem also was placed on probation in Macomb County Circuit Court for another gun incident that occurred on the same day outside a Warren bar. Detroit News.

DURST A "FU**ING SISSY"---

Eminem has expanded his feud with rap foe Everlast to include Fred Durst and DJ Lethal from Limp Bizkit, who he has labelled "cowards" and "fu**king sissies".

In a vitriolic attack on the pair, Eminem extends the trail of abuse that has been ricocheting between himself and former House of Pain MC Everlast.

The duo have been at loggerheads for months, and Eminem has now drawn the nu-metal figureheads into the equation on the D12 album 'Devil's Night'.

The album includes a track entitled 'Girls', in which the controversial US rapper responds to suggestions from DJ Lethal that Everlast would triumph if he and Eminem took their differences to violence, reports MTV.

His suggestion that "Everlast would definitely win" appears to have angered Eminem, who is also believed to be unhappy that Lethal pulled out of a D12 track abusing Everlast.

On 'Girls', Eminem rants: "C'mon dog, it was supposed to be on that song / Talking about how bad you hate him / Now you all on his thong, you fu**ing sissy / Up onstage screaming how people hate you / They don't hate you / They just think you're corny since Christina played you."

Towards the end of the track, Eminem also indicates that he intentionally 'dissed' Durst at the MTV Video Music Awards in September.DOTMUSIC 1/6/01

EMINEM CONTESTING CHILD-SUPPORT RECOMMENDATION---

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. -- Grammy-winning rapper Eminem says $142,480 per year is too much child support for his 5-year-old daughter. His estranged wife says it's not enough.

The dispute is the first significant bump for a divorce that was sailing rather smoothly for the hip-hop star, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III.

A support recommendation filed by the Macomb County Friend of the Court about two weeks ago suggests Eminem should pay $2,740 per week in child support to Kimberly Mathers. The couple agreed in March to share joint custody of Hailie Jade.

The recommendation also calls for the 28-year-old rapper to pay $156 per week toward health insurance and assume 90 percent of any expected child care costs.

Kimberly Mathers, who is unemployed, says she wants more.

"The sum recommended for child support and the percentage allocation recommended for health care expenses are, by reason of the parties' singularly disparate incomes and holdings, inadequate and inequitable," attorney Robert Feldstein of Troy argued in legal documents on her behalf.

Court records suggest Eminem, of Clinton Township, may have a gross income of $2.7 million per year.

Neither side has said what specific amount it has in mind, Eminem attorney Harvey Hauer said.

"There's been no opportunity yet to (discuss numbers)," he told The Macomb Daily.

The attorneys planned to have a hearing Thursday before Probate Judge Antonio P. Viviano, but they delayed it to June 7.

Judges rarely fail to follow the Friend of the Court recommendations, but attorneys on both sides can review and request modifications to them.

Eminem and his wife, who were married in June 1999, legally separated last August, two months after Eminem was charged with using a gun to pistol whip a man he said he saw kissing his wife outside a Warren nightclub.

The couple reconciled, but Kimberly Mathers filed for divorce in March, citing a breakdown in the marriage.

Eminem pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon in the Warren incident and was given two years probation.

He faces sentencing June 5 in Oakland County after pleading no contest to carrying a concealed weapon, a felony, and brandishing a weapon, a misdemeanor. Those charges are from an altercation that occurred eight hours after the Warren incident.

Eminem and his wife already have worked out a deal that gives Eminem their $450,000 Clinton Township home and Kim Mathers $475,000 in cash to purchase one for herself.---- ASSOCIATED PRESS - DETROIT FREE PRESS

MARSUPIAL MATHERS!

EMINEM is reported to be planning a tour of Australia for August, and already family groups have said they would support a ban on him entering the country.

According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, a number of concert promoters are bidding to bring the controversial rapper to Australia for shows in September.

Although no dates have yet been confirmed, the Australian Family Association (AFA), an organisation who aim to raise awareness of family issues, would oppose the shows.

National secretary Bill Muehlenberg said: "We'd support a ban if the Government was interested in going down that road.

"Most groups have tended to be offended by his lyrics, including women's groups, gay groups and black groups. He's been consistent in that regard. He's an equal opportunity offender, I guess."

To enter the country, Eminem would have to apply for a visa, which would not necessarily be accepted, as criminal convictions are often cited as a reason for non-admission into the country. NME --31/05/01

CANBERRA -- Australian family groups are lobbying the government to deny American rap artist Eminem an entry visa to tour the country. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, has generated both outrage and praise for the graphic lyrics of his songs.

Critics say he is misogynist and homophobic, but his supporters praise his wit and poignancy. Either way, the singer -- a rare white star in a genre dominated by black artists -- has sold millions of albums.

The Australian Family Association's national secretary Bill Meuhlenberg said the government should put Eminem in the same category as historian and holocaust denier David Irving, who has been denied visas to Australia four times.

"Eminem's explicit and graphic descriptions of killing his girlfriend or raping his mother is not a great message to be sending young people given our high rates of youth suicide and drug abuse. It compounds the problem," Meuhlenberg told Reuters.

The rap superstar is scheduled to perform at the Mount Fuji Festival in Japan in July and is considering an August tour of Australia.

Promoters are currently locked in a bidding war to snare the Australian tour rights for the Grammy Award-winner.

A spokesman for Immigration Minister Philip Ruddock said the government had not yet received an entertainment visa application from the American singer but he would have to pass tough character checks before being allowed into the country.

Eminem lived up to his bad boy image earlier this year when he was arrested after he pistol-whipped a man he saw kissing his then wife outside a Michigan nightclub. He was sentenced to two years probation.

Last month he pleaded no contest to two gun-related charges with sentencing scheduled for June 5.

"People with criminal convictions have been allowed into Australia but any application would be considered on its merits and the government takes any issue of character very seriously," the minister's spokesman told Reuters.

He said Australian officials were aware of the controversy surrounding Eminem but would not pre-judge the rapper. REUTERS UK -- 31/05/01

LOS ANGELES --- Critically acclaimed film director Curtis Hanson, whose credits include "Wonder Boys" and "L.A. Confidential," will team up with foul-mouthed rapper Eminem to make a fictional movie about a troubled hip-hop star, trade paper Daily Variety reported in its Thursday edition.

The untitled Universal Pictures project marks Eminem's acting debut, although the paper said Warner Bros. was mulling a proposed pairing with rapper DMX in a crime drama called "Lazarus."

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, has generated both outrage and praise for the violent lyrics on his two Grammy-winning albums. Detractors say he is misogynistic and homophobic; his supporters praise his wit and poignancy.

The script, written by Scott Silver ("Mod Squad"), focuses on a troubled kid from Detroit -- much like Eminem -- who finds his voice in hip-hop. Eminem will also perform songs he'll write with his mentor, "gangsta" rap pioneer Dr. Dre.

Daily Variety said Hanson was unconcerned that Eminem's notoriety and lack of acting experience would weigh down the film.

"Working with actors is what I like best about directing and Eminem is an extraordinarily gifted artist, one who's already shown an ability to project personas and identities," the paper quoted him as saying.

Hanson's most recent film was 2000's "Wonder Boys," which starred Michael Douglas and Robert Downey Jr. He shared an Academy Award with Brian Helgeland for co-writing the 1997 cop drama "L.A. Confidential," and was also nominated as a director and producer.

EMINEM JOINS TRIBAL GATHERING --

EMINEM is to be the guest star on a new release from virtual hiphop unknowns INDIGENOUS TRIBE, NME can reveal.

The rap legend is an old friend with the Tribe's frontman Fidel Garcia and got involved with their forthcoming single 'The Fury' after hearing the outfit rehearse it earlier this year in their hometown of Detroit, where Eminem also grew up.

Talking exclusively to NME from their downtown studio, Garcia said he and Eminem - who he calls 'Emsy' - shared a house together from around 1993-7. At one point, Eminem was part of the shifting line-up of Indigenous Tribe, which now features five members, but has featured up to ten since he formed it 11 years ago.

Garcia said: "There were loads of us doing music, all in the same house. He had a room in the house and that's how we met."

As to how he ended up singing on that particular track, he said: "He just showed up at the studio one day and said he wanted to get on the song. He asked what the name was and he just went and wrote some stuff. That's about it. So he's rapping on it. It ('The Fury''s) going pretty good, sounding great."

Indigenous Tribe have released just one record in the UK, called 'Flight 313' which featured on a 1998 split single on Rephlex with techno artist Robert Ordell. However, the band are well-known on the US underground - and look set to emulate the chart success of recent Eminem collaborators D-12, whose debut UK single 'Shit On You' went straight into the UK charts at Number Ten earlier this year. Coincidentally, Indigenous Tribe have also been working on D12's new album.

They have also teamed up with the Wu-Tang Clan's Killarmy for their more imminent release , the five-track 'Anatomy Of Destruction EP', which is scheduled for release on May 28. The Eminem single will then follow in June, all through Gabriel Records. Check out this week's NME magazine for full interview. NME. ED. 22/5/01

EMINEM AND MANSON FIND ANOTHER 'WAY --

EMINEM Marilyn Manson have recorded a heavy metal duet of 'The Way I Am', produced by members of NINE INCH NAILS, NME.COM can exclusively reveal.

The track features in its original form on the Eminem album 'The Marshall Mathers LP'. The song has already been released as a single by Eminem, but a new, guitar based version was recorded by the pair in the US in recent weeks.

Manson plays lead guitar and adds vocals to the track, with sources close to the rocker saying the vocal split is "roughly 50-50%". The song has been produced by an undisclosed member of Nine Inch Nails, although it is not thought singer Trent Reznor, who owns Nothing Records, Manson's label, was involved with the project.

An official spokesperson for Marilyn Manson denied that the song will feature on the soundtrack to the film 'From Hell', which NME.COM revealed Manson has been approached to score. Instead, the track will feature on a reissue of 'The Marshall Mathers LP', which will also include instrumental versions of album tracks on a second CD. The record is released on August 20 2001.

Speculation continues to mount that Eminem and Manson will appear on stage together at this year's Carling Weekend Festivals in Leeds and Reading over the August Bank holiday weekend (August 24-26).

Manson joined Eminem onstage in Germany to perform a version of 'The Way I Am' recently, and he also appears in the video to the 'The Way I Am' single. NME Exclusive 17th May 2001

EMINEM'S LATEST BEAU IS??--

Beyonce Knowles, the lead singer of Destiny's Child, is said to have been dating controversial Detroit rapper Eminem, gossip columnist Liz Smith says. Concerned for her zooming career, Beyonce's managers, family and others are hoping she'll reconsider. She just signed a big spokeswoman deal with L'Oreal and has other corporate product endorsements. These might be put off by her friendship with the rapper, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III. Others are wondering how Kimberly Mathers feels these days. EMINEM SHOULD FACE PROBATION --

Eminem pleaded no contest Monday to a concealed-weapons charge but probably will not go to jail, even though it's his second felony conviction. Oakland Circuit Judge Denise Langford Morris said the Grammy winner's punishment will be probation, unless new evidence surfaces between now and his June sentencing.

Oakland Circuit Judge Denise Langford Morris addresses Eminem as he pleads no contest Monday

.

Judge Denise Langford Morris

What's next - Eminem will be sentenced June 5 by Judge Denise Langford Morris in Oakland Circuit Court in Pontiac.

"The court will not consider jail time" because Eminem had a clear record until two weeks ago, Morris told the rapper and his lawyers in court.

A no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but is treated as a guilty plea for sentencing purposes.
Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, on Monday also pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of brandishing a firearm.

Em With His Lawyer Wally Piszczatowski

The probation in Oakland County would be concurrent to the two years of probation Eminem received April 10 in Macomb Circuit Court. But if Morris changes her mind and recommends jail after reviewing a presentence report on the rapper, Eminem can change his mind, too, and take the case to a jury trial.

Eminem's criminal record is permanent because in Michigan, anyone with two felony convictions cannot expunge them. Someone with a single felony can petition to have that removed from his or her record.

Eminem fan Cinthia Todaro, 20, of Warren said she was pulling for probation only.
"Anything else is just discrimination because of who he is, politics and all," she said.

The Oakland County incident happened last June 4, when Eminem got mad at the road manager of rival rap group Insane Clown Posse outside a Royal Oak stereo shop.

EMINEM PLEADS NO CONTEST TO WEAPONS CHARGE --

PONTIAC, Mich. -- Grammy-winning rapper Eminem pleaded no contest Monday to weapons charges stemming from an argument with associates of a rival Detroit rap group.

Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Denise Langford Morris said she was not considering jail time now but that could change after she reviews the case. Eminem retains the right to withdraw his no contest pleas at the sentencing on June 5.

The 28-year-old pleaded no contest in Oakland County to carrying a concealed weapon - a five-year felony - and to a misdemeanor charge of brandishing a firearm in public in connection with a June 3 argument in Royal Oak.

A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but it is treated as a guilty plea for sentencing purposes.

When asked by Morris if he understood what was meant by a no contest plea, the rapper said ``Yes.''

Oakland County Assistant Prosecutor Mark Bilkovic said the prosecution is not ready to make a sentence recommendation.

``I think jail time in this case might stress to people that this is serious,'' Bilkovic said. ``I don't want anyone to rule that out.''

The prosecution is asking the judge to consider all penalties, including jail time, he said.

Wally Piszczatowski, Eminem's attorney, said his client is anxious to get this behind him and to go back to making music and staying at home with his daughter in the Detroit area.

Piszczatowski said the defense is ``very pleased'' with the way Morris has handled the case, and that ``she is treating Mathers like she would treat anybody else who becomes before her.''

``That's exactly what she said she'd do and that's exactly what she did,'' he said.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, pleaded guilty on April 10 to a weapons charge in Macomb County Circuit Court and received two years of probation. In return, prosecutors dropped an assault charge stemming from a June 4 incident in which Eminem was accused of pistol whipping a man seen kissing his wife, Kim Mathers, outside a Warren nightclub.

Three witnesses said Eminem on June 3 pulled a firearm in a public parking lot, but he never pointed it at anybody, Bilkovic said.

He said Eminem owned the gun legally, but did not have a permit to conceal the weapons and carry it in public.

EMINEM'S BRITAIN PLANS PUT ON HOLD --

Judge says rapper cannot go without permission of court

The judge who last week forbade Eminem from leaving the country without his say-so said Thursday the rapper should conclude his probation before hunting for a home in England.

"He can't relocate there without the permission of the court," Macomb Circuit Judge Antonio Viviano said in response to a Reuters report claiming Eminem is considering moving to London.

"Why would he want to buy a new house and what reason would he have for going to Europe? He just bought a house in Clinton Township," Viviano said.

Published reports have Eminem looking for a home or apartment in metropolitan London -- a haven for celebrities such as Madonna, Hugh Grant and Tom Cruise.

Viviano is the judge who put the rapper, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, on two years' probation for carrying a concealed weapon in Warren last summer.

As part of last week's sentence, Eminem agreed to report to a probation officer in Mt. Clemens every month and to seek permission from Viviano any time he wants to travel outside the continental United States in the next two years.
The British tabloid The Sun said Eminem wants to buy a house in August, when he is scheduled to play in two festivals. And the performer told Reuters "I love Britain" and that "I plan to look for an apartment ... but don't know what area to look in. I've got people scouting for me."

Viviano said he cannot ban Eminem from buying a home in England, but can prevent him from being able to use it.
"When he asks about it I'll have to decide based on what he presents in court," Viviano said. "God only knows what he's doing."
Meantime, Eminem will be in Oakland Circuit Court Monday on weapons charges over a confrontation he had last summer with an Insane Clown Posse road manager in Royal Oak.

Mark Bilkovic, the assistant prosecutor trying that case, said that unlike in Macomb County, where Eminem took a plea to avoid jail -- no deals will be made.

"We won't reduce or dismiss anything," Bilkovic said. "His guidelines are probation to nine months in jail, and we haven't made a decision yet on the direction we will take."

Judge Denise Langford Morris will decide at Monday's hearing whether Eminem should stand trial. By Gene Schabath, and Hawke Fracassa. Detroit Free Press 20/4/01

EMINEM HOUSE HUNTING IN BRITAIN --

U.S. rapper Eminem is set to join Madonna and a host of other celebrities in buying a house in Britain, The Sun tabloid reported on Thursday.

The Grammy Award-winning singer was quoted as saying he would look for a property, most likely in London, when he makes his next visit to Britain.

"I love Britain and all in all spent a lot of time there last year," Eminem said.

"I plan to look for an apartment while I'm over but don't know what area to look in. I've got people scouting for me," said the singer, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III.

Eminem could be house hunting as soon as August when he is lined up to play at two festivals in Britain, the Sun said.

Trendy London areas such as Notting Hill, Kensington and Chelsea have long been popular with celebrities. Madonna, married to British film director Guy Ritchie, bought a house near Hyde Park in central London with a reported $8.11 million price tag.

Film star Hugh Grant lives in South Kensington and pop singer Robbie Williams owns a house in Notting Hill.

Recently separated superstar couple Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman shared a London home.

The Sun quoted Eminem's lawyer as saying that a two-year probation sentence imposed on the singer last week on a concealed weapons charge would not stop him coming to Britain.

Eminem entered a guilty plea in the case, in which he brandished an unloaded gun last June outside a Detroit-area nightclub and began fighting with a man after seeing him kissing his wife, Kimberley Mathers.

He and his wife reached a preliminary divorce arrangement last month that gave Eminem joint custody of their five-year old daughter.

One of the few white musicians to make it big in the hip-hop world, Eminem's songs have been dubbed "pulp diction" by some critics because of violent lyrics that are often misogynistic or homophobic. LONDON (Reuters) 18/4/01

EMINEM WANTS TO SETTLE GUN CASE --

Oakland prosecutor won't push for jail time

By Ben Schmitt Free Press Writer

One criminal case behind him, rapper Eminem hopes to settle another in Oakland County next week, possibly by pleading guilty and receiving probation, his lawyer said. He may get his wish.Oakland County Assistant Prosecutor Mark Bilkovic said Tuesday that he won't push for jail time if Eminem pleads guilty Monday before a scheduled pretrial.

Eminem, a 28-year-old Clinton Township resident, is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, a felony, and brandishing a firearm in public, a misdemeanor. Upon conviction, the felony charge carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison; the misdemeanor, 90 days.

Police say he flashed an unloaded, 9mm semiautomatic pistol during a June 3 argument in Royal Oak with an associate of the rival Detroit area hip-hop duo, Insane Clown Posse.

Eminem's attorney, Wally Piszczatowski, said he met with Oakland County prosecutors Tuesday and will continue talking with them this week.

"My hope is to keep him on probation," Piszczatowski said Tuesday.

The pretrial hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday in front of Oakland Circuit Judge Denise Langford Morris.

"He could plead straight up and work out a sentencing deal with the judge," Bilkovic said. "In a case like this, I wouldn't go in screaming for jail time."

Last week, Eminem was sentenced to 2 years' probation on a weapons charge in Macomb County, stemming from a June 4 altercation in Warren. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall B. Mathers III, was accused of pistol-whipping a man seen kissing his wife, Kim Mathers, outside the Hot Rock Cafe nightclub. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon, both felonies.

In Macomb County, Eminem entered a plea bargain by pleading guilty to the concealed-weapons charge. Prosecutors dropped the assault charge.

Bilkovic said his office had decided not to negotiate a plea bargain. In contrast, Macomb County prosecutors asked for up to 6 months of jail time. Bilkovic said he sees no need for that because Eminem had no criminal record before these incidents.18/4/01

EMINEM ROW DJ WALKS OUT

Furious DJ Graham Mack stormed out of his show yesterday after an on-air row with his boss when he refused to play a song by Eminem. Mack and programme controller Adam Bridge slugged it out when the DJ said he wouldn't put on Eminem's Stan because it was "crap" and "rubbish."

Mack said: "He's a bigot, he's a criminal and he's on probation.
"So I'm going to play Keeping the Dream Alive instead of Eminem."

Listeners heard Bridge phone the show and say: "I don't pay you for your opinions. I pay you to polay what I tell you to play."

Mack replied: "Yes, but if it's not relevant, there's no point playing it." Bridge ordered: "Just ply the bloody song." Mack retorted: "I'm outta here, you want it played, you bloody play it."

The pair fell out after Mack was shifted from weekday to weekend slots. BRMB said: "We have been unable to contact Graham." The Mirror - Rod Chaytor 14th April 2001

IT ISN'T OVER UNTIL IT'S OVER

Eminem still has a divorce and a criminal matter in Oakland County to wrap up. He is scheduled to appear in Oakland County Circuit Court on April 23 for a trial on two weapons charges, one misdemeanor and one felony, stemming from a run-in with an associate of the rival Detroit hip-hop duo Insane Clown Posse, whom police say Eminem threatened with a gun in Royal Oak just before the Warren incident, on June 3. --- You can check out the video of Em's court appearance by going to courttv.com.

EMINEM AVOIDS PRISON RAP

There will be probation, but no jail time, for multimillionaire rapper Eminem.

"I'm glad the judge treated me fair ... like any other person," Eminem said Tuesday after receiving two years of probation.
The Grammy-winning Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, pleaded guilty to having an unloaded gun during a June 4 scrap with a man who had kissed his estranged wife, Kim, at a Warren bar. The couple are now divorcing.
Macomb Circuit Judge Antonio Viviano said the hip-hop star didn't deserve jail time, because the empty gun "was no direct danger to human life."

Viviano dropped an assault charge in exchange for Eminem's concealed-weapons plea.

.

Eminem must report to a probation officer once a month, undergo counseling, get drug and alcohol testing and needs Viviano's permission to travel abroad.

Assistant Macomb Prosecutor David Portuesi said if Eminem violates probation, he could be imprisoned for 40 to 60 months.
John Briggs said the verdict is a wake-up call for his stepson.

"He knows if he (doesn't) keep his nose clean he's going to face five years," Briggs said. Also in court were many Eminem fans wearing Em T-shirts, Marshall's estranged mother Debbie and younger brother Nate (14) all in attendence to make sure he didn't get sent down. Detroit News 11/4/01

EMINEM SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS PROBATION
MT. CLEM, Mich. -- Rap star Eminem was sentenced to two years probation Tuesday after pleading guilty to a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

The charge carried a maximum sentence of five years in prison, although Macomb County Prosecutor Carl Marlinga said earlier that he would seek no more than six months ``because he has no record and there was no serious injury.''
As part of his probation, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Antonio Viviano ordered the Grammy-winner to undergo counseling and submit to drug testing.

He will be allowed to travel within the continental United States for work. Viviano ordered Mathers to pay financial penalties in the case including a $5,000 fee to cover court costs, a $2,500 fine, $60 to a crime victims fund and $30 a month to cover state supervision fees. Viviano also cautioned Mathers he will be subject to regular counseling and drug tests to ensure he is not guilty of alcohol abuse or the use of any controlled substance without a prescription.

In this case, the weapon was not loaded and there was no direct danger to human life,'' Viviano said, agreeing to accept a pre-sentencing report that recommended the rapper receive zero to three months in jail.

In February, Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, pleaded guilty to the charge as part of an agreement with Macomb County assistant prosecutor David Portuesi, who dropped a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon in return.
Viviano took the plea under advisement, which meant Eminem could have changed his mind after hearing what sentence he would receive.

Eminem, of Macomb County's Clinton Township outside Detroit, was charged following a June 4 confrontation outside a Warren nightclub. Police say Eminem struck a man he says he saw kissing his estranged wife, Kim.

Eminem also faces charges in Oakland County that he illegally possessed and brandished a concealed weapon during a confrontation with Douglas Dail of Insane Clown Posse, a Detroit-based rap group, in nearby Royal Oak. That occurred hours before his Warren arrest and has not yet been resolved. (Check top of page)

Mr. Mathers is a self-made man. He has overcome many obstacles,'' his attorney, Wally Piszczatowski, told the judge before he handed down the sentence. ``He has the ability to overcome this problem as a minor setback.''

At the advice of his attorneys, Eminem made no statement in court. He stood silent between his attorneys in a dark suit and tie.10th April 2001 Free Wire Press

EMINEM IN COURT TODAY FOR SENTENCING
Controversial rapper Eminem will be in Macomb County Circuit Court today for sentencing on a weapons charge stemming from an altercation outside a Warren nightspot in June. The charges against the rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, were filed over his attack of a man he'd seen kissing his wife outside a Warren nightclub. Eminem, of Clinton Township, told police he hit the man in the head with an unloaded gun. He said he was carrying the gun because his bodyguards were unavailable. He faces up to 11 months in jail. 10/4/01

MORE HONOURS FOR EMINEM AT THE DETROIT AWARDS -
It was rumoured that Eminem would not show up to perform with Detroit's finest at the annual Detroit Music Awards but how could the wild successful rapper snub the ceremony after winning what are regarded as the two top prizes on the 72-award roster? 'The Marshall Mathers LP' was voted the best National Album and 'The Real Slim Shady' won the best National single. After picking up his awards Em joined his crew D-12 for the show's raw and rousing 20 minute finale. 7th April 2000

EMINEM: BEACH BLANKET BLEEPING...

Don't look for Eminem to get the key to Daytona Beach, Fla. The controversial rapper and Grammy winner, 28, offended the town's mayor, Bud Asher, with some onstage profanity during a concert filmed on Friday before an estimated 100,0000 spring-breakers at the annual Black College Reunion for Black Entertainment Television. His outburst, the precise words of which have not been reported, also included drug references and came during the performance of the song "Purple Pill." "(Eminem) would definitely not be welcome back to perform," Hizzoner told reporters afterward. "Evidently this guy is a renegade and he does whatever he wants." Evidently, but with some reservation . . . Could this be a NEW Eminem? BET officials told the Associated Press that they asked the musician to tone down his language after he delivered the number that had so inflamed the local politico -- and Eminem performed the song again, and this time acceded to their wishes. "We just wanted to make sure the mayor's fears were assuaged," said BET spokesman Robert Santwer. Eminem was part of a hip-hop and R&B bill o'fare that included Snoop,Missy Elliot and Nelly Furtado. (Their performances -- minus the profanity -- are all due to air on BET next month.) "He's got a job to do, he's got a city to represent," Snoop said of Mayor Asher, "so I respect that." DETROIT -- Detroit hip-hop has come alive with the success of local performers, such as Eminem and Slum Village. And the heart of the scene could be found on Wayne State's campus Friday during a second annual hip-hop conference.
Nearly 100 or so local artists, producers and independent label representatives gathered in the Student Center's Hilberry Auditorium to hear panelists from the local and national music industry discuss the ins and outs of the business.
Just a week before, a University of Michigan hip-hop conference took a more academic approach. But WSU's summit -- hosted by student group, Third World, and local promoters, In the Mix -- presented practical information for those looking to make, market and distribute their music.

"We gotta get our business together," said panelist Miles "Doc Chill" Dixon, of Okane Management in Detroit. "A lot of us don't know each other. We don't use our own resources. If you ain't helpin' yourself, why ... should (radio or record labels) help you?"
Radio airplay and how to get it proved to be a hot topic.

"If you can create a buzz, labels will come to you and radio will come to you," said Def Jam South record representative Glen Wallace. "The game right now is really about the perception of what's going to be the next thing. What's hot."
LaMarr Sanders, 22, a gospel rap artist who performs with the local group Mad Prophets, said he "came to sit and listen and soak in all I can. You can see the business for what it really is. You have a better insight on how to handle things."
The summit also had a vendor area, allowing participants to network and swap material.

Among the summit participants were T-3 and Baatin, of the Detroit hip-hop group Slum Village, which was to perform Friday evening with local underground acts like the Almighty Dreadnaughtz, Teamstaz, Obie Trice, Detroit Playaz, Lab Animals and summit organizers Poppi and E.P.

"I wish I could talk longer, I've got so much to share" said Baatin, ending a panel appearance, "I hope that somebody can be inspired. I'd be in the crowd if I wasn't an artist."

BIGGEST TOY CHAIN BANS EMINEM DOLL

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's biggest toy retailer said Monday it would refuse to sell a doll of the American rapper Eminem because it did not fit with its family image.

Retail chain Woolworths said the doll, which features the singer's trademark chainsaw, tattoos and the words "cut here" scrawled on the neck, were due to arrive in Britain from the United States this summer.

"We were offered the Eminem doll but decided not to stock it," Woolworths' spokeswoman Nicole Lander said.

"The visual impact didn't fit with our family environment and having it around a Barbie doll, for example, didn't feel right," she said.

Britain's venerable and most famous toy retailer, Hamleys, also said it would not stock the doll, which was expected to sell for about $14/£9.99.

Eminem, criticized for his homophobic and mysogynistic lyrics but championed for producing a definitive rap style, performed a sell-out tour of Britain last month despite protests from gay rights activists.

Woolworths said it would continue selling Eminem's Grammy Award-winning albums because they were aimed at older shoppers and were not visually controversial.

EMINEM'S HOME GETS NEW OWNER

The new owner of the Sterling Heights home where Eminem, above, used to live, Darren Martens, finds owning the rapper's former pad is a pain. Martens can't find anyone to do the much-needed remodeling work.

There once were "No Trespassing" signs at Darren Martens' new house, but somebody stole them.
There was also a mailbox, but somebody stole that, too.
It probably had something to do with the owner, an earnest young tunesmith called Eminem.
Martens, 41, bought one of Sterling Heights' leading tourist attractions last month for the knock-down price of $475,000. The previous occupant had already moved on to a gated development in Clinton Township, the better to preserve his possessions and his sanity.

So far, Martens says, no one has pestered him. The fans who showed their devotion to Macomb County's only Grammy Award-winning rap star by honking at all hours, swimming in his pool and pilfering his stuff seem to realize he has left the building.
A few cars have beeped while Martens' girlfriend worked in the front yard, but he doesn't think they're mistaking her for Eminem's estranged wife, Kim Mathers: "It's just because she's a good-looking blonde."
Meantime, Martens has been indoors, sweating and pondering a case of buyer's remorse. As much as he dislikes remodeling work -- which is a lot -- he can't find anyone else to do it. Plus, he says, the house was really dirty.
"We've had it for five weeks and we're still cleaning."

THIS IS as close to Hollywood as things get on Hayes Road. In the humble, 4,834-square-foot home on 2.78 acres with a pool, a 1,000-square-foot deck and a rusty basketball hoop, a young man achieved world renown, split up with his wife, reunited with his wife, pondered the possibility of jail time for various dubious acts and split up with his wife again.
All of that meant exactly squat to Martens, who owns a parts and components factory in Mt. Clemens.
Martens was raised in the area and remembers watching the house go up. A friend checked when it went on the market in November and reported back with the price: $650,000.

Martens had outgrown his condo in Harrison Township, but he wasn't feeling $650,000 worth of squeezed. The friend called again when the price dropped to $549,900, but he still wasn't interested.
Meantime, Marshall (Eminem) Mathers was getting increasingly anxious to dump the place.

THERE WAS the mailbox incident, in which someone sawed the box right off the post.
There were the two guys dressed like workmen who pried open two upstairs windows and unscrewed all the outdoor lights so they could come back undetected later.
Finally, there was the water heater, which broke at the same inconvenient moment as the sump pump and left 18 inches of water in the basement.

The longer the house sat unoccupied, says agent Cindy Barach of Ralph Roberts Real Estate, the unluckier it became. Rather than wait for tornados or fire ants, they said let's just get rid of it. Now.
The Matherses paid $450,000 for the house in July 1999. In their tender care, it got a new roof, a glorious white kitchen, a fresh master suite and purplish carpet.

"Just make an offer," Barach told Martens. He suggested $475,000, and the purplish carpet was his.

MARTENS CONCEDES that the previous owners did a nice job with their renovations. He just wishes they hadn't stopped. Two-thirds of the house is contemporary. The rest is mid-1980s oak.
"You walk into the old foyer, and it doesn't match."
Neither did the carpet, which has been replaced with more neutral tones. He's planning to build a putting green in the back yard, and eventually, the place may feel like his instead of the other guy's.
For now, he's taking things one step at a time -- a doorknob here, some floor tile there.
"I did put up a new mailbox," he says, one of those bulky green ones from Rubbermaid. Knock on plastic, it's still standing.

EMINEM, KIM: FINAL SPLIT - Eminem has reached a divorce agreement with wife Kimberly Mathers that gives the couple joint legal and physical custody of 5-year-old daughter Hailie Jade, the rapper's lawyer, Harvey Hauer, has told the Detroit News. Mathers and Eminem (real name: Marshall Mathers III) were married in June 1999. Kim Mathers filed for divorce on March 1, following a reported two-month attempt at rapprochement. The rapper, 28, sports a "Kim: Rot in Pieces" tattoo on his chest, (Stomach - Ed) PEOPLE has reported, and his songs " '97 Bonnie & Clyde" and "Kim" present tales of killing her. In proceedings that Hauer described as "not contentious at all," the couple worked out a temporary divorce agreement last week that will also give Eminem their $450,000 home, while Kim Mathers will receive $475,000 in cash in order to buy a house. The settlement, said the attorney, "was easily arrived at because each person was concerned with the family and concerned with the well-being of their daughter."

EMINEM CUTS DIVORCE DEAL

AGREEMENT GIVES RAPPER HOME, JOINT CUSTODY OF CHILD

THE DETROIT NEWS

MT. CLEMENS -- Macomb County's raunchiest rapper, Eminem, could soon have a new title to officially add to his name alongside Grammy winner and controversy-monger: Mr. Single.

In what could be one of his quickest run-ins with the court system ever, Eminem and his estranged wife, Kimberley Mathers, worked out a temporary divorce agreement last week that gives the rapper the couple's $450,000 Clinton Township home and Mathers $475,000 to find her own place.

The agreement, which becomes final if no other changes are made, also gives the couple joint legal and physical custody of their 5-year-old daughter, Hailie Jade.

Harvey Hauer, Eminem's attorney, wouldn't disclose how long the two parties met but said the proceedings were "not contentious at all." He said both Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, and Kim, agreed the first priority was their daughter.

"It was easily arrived at because each person was concerned with the family and concerned with the well-being of their daughter," Hauer said.

But the long road to divorce could just be the beginning, said one prominent Metro Detroit divorce attorney who has represented several high-profile Motown artists including Marvin Gaye.

Henry Baskin said despite the quick temporary agreement -- which isn't uncommon -- attorneys for both Eminem and Kim Mathers will now have to determine the size and extent of the "marital estate" and how it will be divvied up.
With more than 10 conduits of income for Eminem, including album royalties and performance fees, the process will likely be a difficult one, Baskin said.

"I don't know what this guy's wife did for him spiritually and creatively to generate the music and the royalties he's entitled, but ownership is not just who's name it is in," Baskin said.

The speedy temporary agreement comes just 11 days after Kim Mathers filed for divorce on March 1 in Macomb County Circuit Court, citing a breakdown in the marriage.

The filing marked the second time the couple, who married in St. Joseph, Mo. on June 14, 1999, officially called it quits. Eminem filed for divorce in August but the couple reconciled in December.

EMINEM'S MOTHER OFFERS A HARMONIOUS VIEW OF FAMILY FIGHTS

Debbie Mathers appeared on the "Sally Jessy Raphael" show. By Tim Kiska / Detroit News Television Writer

There's little love lost between Eminem and his mother, who are publicly feuding. But on Monday morning she went on national TV to defend her famous rapper son.
Debbie Mathers seemed more like a concerned parent than an angry one on the Sally Jessy Raphael talk show on Channel 4, where she maintained repeatedly that her son -- whose real name is Marshall Mathers III -- was an OK young man.
"He works very hard, 24/7," Mathers told the studio audience and fellow guests, including a mother who wouldn't let her 11-year-old son listen to Eminem's lyrics. "He would give anybody the shirt off his back. ... You don't know my son."
Mathers, however, is still suing her son for $10 million, saying he defamed her. At the same time, Eminem often criticizes his mother and targets her in his raps, even referring to killing her.

Debbie Mathers-Briggs on 'Sally'

"We're not having too many problems right at the moment," Mathers told the studio audience. ... We're hoping for a resolution.

"Marshall has an awful lot of problems in his life now," she continued. "It comes from when you only have one relationship in life to compare it with, you've got nothing. He's never had anything to compare it with." She did not elaborate.

As might be expected about any program about Eminem, there was plenty of debate.
In addition to an angry mother who argued that parents ended up spending hours "undoing what your son is doing," the show featured a pro-Eminem rapper, an anti-Eminem rapper and a music writer for the Village Voice who wondered why Eminem was being awarded Grammys for his work, which often targets women and gays.
Debbie Mathers blames her son's management and his record company for pushing him to write controversial rap numbers.
"He came out being positive," she said of her son, who now lives in Macomb County, "and it didn't work. The positive stuff didn't sell."

EMINEM BUILDS CRECHE STUDIO - Eminem is going to build a studio in his Detroit mansion so he'll be able to look after his daughter Hailie when he's working. Eminem is currently divorcing his wife Kim and, although they agreed to share custody of their daughter, Mr Shady often finds himself holding the baby. "Eminem's building a studio in his home," says Debbie Mathers-Briggs, "so in the future he can take care of her. Even when he's working, he'll be home to take care of Hailie." 14th March 2001

EMINEM NEXT DUET: THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY? By JAM! Music Will Eminem's next single see the rapper freestyling over a Partridge Family jam? New York's Daily News says the upcoming issue of Talk magazine features an article on Slim Shady and his producer Dr. Dre, and observes the pair in the studio. Dre -- the sonic architect of gangsta rap and the studio mastermind behind N.W.A, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and his own sizable hits -- is quoted in the article trying to convince Em to essay a cut based on a sample from hits by the fictional '70s family act The Partridge Family. The Daily News said Eminem at first resists rhyming over samples from the bubblegum hits "I Can Feel Your Heart Beat" and "I Think I Love You," but eventually freestyled a verse: "My son's 16 came to say he had no place to stay ... I said he wasn't mine, slammed the door in his face." No word on whether the results will ever surface.

EMINEM OFFERED FILM ROLE: By JAM! Movies. After conquering the world of hip-hop, Eminem has been offered his first feature film roles. Variety reports Slim Shady has been offered $4 million to star alongside rapper DMX in "Lazarus," a project that was originally intended to be the fourth installment of "The Crow" film series, but is now evolving into a stand-alone feature. "Lazarus" is about two young men who die together and are reborn -- one good and one evil -- and do battle in the world of hip-hop, Variety said. DMX has been offered the good-guy role, while Eminem is being lured to the project with the villain's part. Much more likely is a planned film about the singer's early life, in which he would presumably play himself. Universal and Imagine Entertainment are working on an Eminem biopic, with a script by writer Scott Silver that traces the rapper's early career struggles on his way to the top. Variety said Eminem is writing songs for the project wth producer Dr. Dre.

EMINEM ON YOUR TOY SHELF - G.I. Joe, move over. A Brooklyn-based toy manufacturer called Art Asylum is readying an Eminem action figure to hit store shelves this July, reports the New York Post. "They're very highly detailed," a spokesman for the firm told the paper. "They look just like him. We even have all his tattoos." Three versions of the controversial rapper fashioned in plastic -- "Slim Shady," "Marshall Mathers" and "Eminem" -- will reportedly come in two different sizes and sell for $20 each in music and specialty shops. As a special bonus, the Post notes, accessories will include a chain saw and hockey mask, so those playing with their Eminem dolls can re-enact the musician's stage antics in the privacy of their own homes. Not to be outdone, California-based Fewture Models has announced that it will release four different action figures based on shock rocker Marilyn Manson, whose first big hit was the album "Antichrist Superstar." TEACHER STICKS UP FOR EMINEM - School just ain't what it used to be . . . an Iowa elementary school teacher resigned after her superiors threatened to reprimand her for letting a group of students continue a research project on controversial rapper Eminem, 28, reports the Associated Press. Administrators at the school in Tipton, Iowa, told music teacher Cassie Johnson, 24, to cancel the sixth graders' project after parents complained their child had found inappropriate material on the Internet. Johnson said she assigned different topics to the students after the parents' complaint but then allowed them to continue working on the Eminem assignment after learning that students in another class were allowed to give a presentation on the same subject. Johnson argued that the presentation didn't have any references to Eminem's lyrics, which contain obscenities and references to violence. Principal Brian Krob declined to discuss details of the incident.7/3/01

Today Rapper's wife sues for divorce Suzanne Plunkett, AP Eminem's attorney said his client's main concern is his daughter, not publicity. CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Rap superstar Eminem's on-again, off-again marriage is off again. Two months after the couple reportedly reconciled for the sake of their daughter, Kim Mathers filed for divorce Thursday in Macomb County Circuit Court. "This is a marriage that apparently just isn't going to work," said her attorney, Robert Z. Feldstein. "Luckily, the parties seem to be communicating well with respect to their daughter and hopefully that communication and cooperation is going to be ongoing for the best interest of the child." Mathers and Eminem — whose real name is Marshall Mathers III — married in June 1999, in St. Joseph, Mo. They have a 5-year-old daughter, Hailie Jade. Eminem — who took home three awards at last week's Grammys — filed for divorce last August after a run-in with Warren, Mich., police and a suicide attempt by his wife. The rapper faces sentencing on April 10 after pleading guilty last month to a weapons charge from a fight outside a Warren nightspot in June. Eminem's attorney, Harvey Hauer, said the couple made "a good faith attempt" at reconciliation but "apparently it wasn't the most successful attempt." Hauer said his client's main concern is his daughter, not publicity. "Whoever thinks that is not thinking straight," Hauer told The Detroit News. "Mr. Mathers doesn't need more publicity. Besides, he did not file so nobody can accuse him of attempting to get publicity." Kim Mathers is seeking joint physical and legal custody of their daughter. She also has asked the court to put in place a restraining order, freezing the couple's mortgage, life insurance and other assets, until a divorce agreement can be worked out. No hearing date has been set.

EMINEM RAGES OUT OF CONTROL RAPPER EMINEM left more than controversy in his wake at the Grammy Awards. RAPPER Eminem trashed his dressing room. The 26-year-old bad boy tore through his dressing room like an out-of-control bulldozer -- and furious event organizers are promising to make him pay for the damage! "Eminem was the center of controversy at the Grammy Awards and he proved that his anger isn't contrived for the stage," an insider revealed. "He trashed his dressing room so severely that event organizers were vowing to sue him! "Before he even went onstage, Eminem sliced up the couch in his dressing room. "Then he smeared ketchup, mustard and ranch dressing all over the walls. "It was an extremely violent eruption. The place looked like a bomb had gone off. "Grammy officials were furious! When they saw the damage after the show they took pictures and vowed to make the rapper pay." After performing the hit song "Stan" with Elton John, Eminem shocked the audience when he gave a one-finger salute -- with both hands. But the provocative rapper -- whose "The Marshall Mathers LP" nabbed two Grammys -- had already sealed his nasty reputation backstage. "Before he even went onstage Eminem was ordering all of the event staff around," the insider revealed. "First, he demanded a different kind of bottled water than what had been provided. "Then he kept sending staffers out on more and more errands. By the time he performed, they were sick of him."

AWARD SNUB FOR EM --

By STEPHEN M. SILVERMAN March 01, 2001 Eminem Misses Soul Train On Wednesday, precisely one week after he won three Grammy Awards, Eminem 28, was snubbed at the Soul Train Music Awards, for the past 15 years a prominent showcase for popular African-American culture. Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" lost the album of the year award to his mentor Dr. Dre's "Dr. Dre -- 2001." His clip for "Stan" (the song that Eminem and Elton John sang together at the Grammys) was shut out for best video by rapper Mystikal's "Shake Ya Ass." Soul Train nominees and winners are determined by a selective poll of radio station programmers, recording artists and music retail personnel. Eminem did not attend the Soul Train event, which was taped at L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium and will be broadcast nationally on March 3. Eminem accepts the 1999 MTV award for best new artist in a video for "My Name Is." Flanking him are presenters Wyclef Jean and Charlotte Church .

EMINEM AT BRIT AWARDS EMINEM WON BEST INTERNATIONAL MALE ARTIST AT THIS YEARS BRIT QWARDS HELD 26/2/01

Eminem may have offended enough people to prompt a small (And I mean 'small' ED.) protest led by gay campaign group Outrage! outside the venue, but inside he was the performer most people were waiting for. He emerged from a shack, wielding a chainsaw, to perform 'The Real Slim Shady'. The crowd loved every minute of it, including all his swearing, and gave him one of the best receptions of the night. Robbie meets Eminem Robbie quashed recent reports that he was ready to cause trouble with Eminem if they came face to face. He told Radio 1 he met him earlier in the evening and introduced himself: "He probably didn't know who I was." Rob told us: "I said there was something in the paper today and it was just the media. The guy is a genius. I've got nothing but love for him."
