WALKEYS IN DEVON.


The following were taken from "Exeter Freemen 1266   1967."  Published by  Devon & Cornwall Record Society. They were copied by Eardley Bryan from the book which is in the library of the Society of Genealogists in London.
 

13 Oct 1766.  Samuel Walkey, grocer, by order of mayor and council.
 

15 Jul 1797.  Benjamin Walkey of St. Sidwell, apothecary, by privilege, married the daughter of Alderman Joseph Elliott.
 

3 Jul 1802.  Charles Elliott Walkey, gent., son of Benjamin Walkey, by succession.
 

1 Feb 1834.  Samuel Collyns Walkey, surgeon, by order of mayor and council (sworn in chamber, and elected councillor).
 

10 Nov 1701.  Benjamin Brown, goldsmith, apprentice of William Ekins.
 

11 Mar 1765.  Richard Griffen, leather dresser, apprentice of Alderman Elliott.
 

20 Mar 1790.  William May of St. Edmund, skinner and tawyer, aged 25, apprentice of Alderman Elliott.
 

1 Mar 1708.  Joseph Elliott, blacksmith, son of John Elliott, by succession.
 

16 Mar 1741.  Joseph Elliott, glover, apprentice of John Luckett.
 

1 Sep 1756.  Joseph Elliott, glover, by order (of mayor and council).
 

N.B. Not all of these are necessarily guaranteed to be in our direct line of descent and some may have no connection at all.
