WALKEY SOLDIERS.
Listed below are members of the Walkey and Paske families who were soldiers. The information was gathered from the Army Lists of various years and, in the case of Henry Gresham Paske, from the List of officers who had served in the Sherwood Foresters, a Regimental publication. These names were taken from the Forbes Family Tree.
BIRCH, Captain John. 73rd Highlanders. 2nd Battalion Black Watch. 21 Aug 1806. Paymaster. Served as paymaster until 18 Nov 1819 when he went on half pay. In 1821 he was listed as Paymaster of 1st Greek L. I.
MOSTYN, Dr Henry Thornton. (Not an ancestor, but married to Cecilia Forbes, sister of Mary Arabella.) H. Mate, General Service 8 Jul 1809. Assistant Surgeon, 15 Dragoons 4 Jan 1810; 6th Royal Vet Battalion 11 Feb 1813; 9th Royal Vet Battalion 11 Feb 1813; 1st Royal Vet Battalion 7 Jul 1815; 41st Foot (exchange) 7 Mar 1816; Surgeon, 81st Foot 20 Oct 1825; 8th Foot 23 Feb 1826; 47th Foot 14 Jan 1830. Retired half pay 30 Oct 1840. Born 28 May 1789. M.D. Kings Coll Aberdeen, 1822.
PASKE, Henry Gresham. Ensign 95th, from Cadet in the Austrian Army, 2 Mar 1855: Lt 7 Nov 1855, Adt 19 Oct 1861, Capt 20 Apr 1866, Major 20 Apr 1878, Lt Col The Sherwood Foresters 7 Dec 1881. Retired with the rank of Col 1 Apr 1882. Died at Bedford 23 Mar 1908. Served with the 95th in the Crimean War of 1854 5, Medal and one Clasp, Turkish Medal; in the Indian Mutiny Campaign of 1857 8, Medal and one Clasp.
WALKEY, Rowland. Royal Artillery. Lt 19 Jun 1860, Capt 23 Nov 1872, Maj 19 Feb 1881 p. a. c. Instructor in Artillery R. M. Academy 1 Jul 1873 9 Sep 1880. In 1886, Staff Officer, 26 years service. Lt Col 18 Apr 1887, Commanding Auxiliary Artillery, Northern Division. Staff Employ, 1 Nov 1891. Commandant and Chief Instructor, Golden Hill, 1 Nov 1891. Colonel on the Staff, Commanding Royal Artillery, Devonport, 1 Dec 1893. Brevet Colonel 29 Aug 1893.
