I bought my first MG in 1964. It was a 1932 MG F Magna F1.
I took this car out to Germany, where I was stationed at the time with The Cheshire Regiment.
I used to drive my MG with the roof down and the widnscreen flat on the bonnet. I wore flying goggles to keep the bugs out of my eyes. That was all very well when the sun was shining, but not quite so good when it rained. I had to stop and quickly put up the hood. That could be done from the driver's seat by leaning back, holding the front frame and pulling it up. The side screens were not very effective at keeping the rain out, consequently, I was often saturated, especially when I didn't bother to fit them.

I sold the car in 1968 when I was serving in Lichfield and thought that I'd never see it again. Imagine my surprise when I was looking through a book about MGs and looked to see if there was an F Magna and I saw one with the Number GY2473! I rushed back home and checked on a photo and, sure enough it was my old car.
The car had been completely rebuilt and obviously a lot of money has been spent on it. It now features on front cover of "The MG Collection, The Pre-War Models" by Richard Monk, ISBN 1-85260-496-4.
There are several differences apart from the obvious completely different wings and body design.
The brakes have been reduced from 12" to 8"
The interior mirror has moved. (Difficult to drive with it down!)
The horns have been put inside, somewhere.
A temperature guage has been fitted on the radiator filler cap.
The hole for the starting handle has disappeared!
The lights have all been changed back to the original style
The shape of the body above the dash board has been changed
I was recently telephoned by the current owner, who has owned it for
25 years, during which he has covered some 30,000 miles. He said
that it was in pieces when he bought it, so he was interested to see the
photograph above. He agreed that many alterations had been carried
before I owned it, so he has made it look as correct as possible.
Apparently the bonnet was 2 inches too short.
