GUARANTEES Is long-term chronic exposure to the low intensity microwave radiation from mobile phone base-station masts, or rooftop antenna, safe? Earlier categorical assurances that mobile handsets were completely safe have now been withdrawn Can similar assurances of base station mast safety be trusted?
Exposure to RF radiation at current exposure levels is now accepted as causing biological effects on humans. Though proof of harm from these effects has yet to be accepted, it is proper that we should be protected from any unnecessary danger. Even if not dangerous, why should we have to accept these effects? I like my response time and brainwaves the way they are!
The Stewart Report says that “... the gaps in knowledge are sufficient to justify a precautionary approach.” and recommends that “ in making decisions about the siting of base stations, planning authorities should have the power to ensure that the RF fields to which the public will be exposed will be kept to lowest practical levels that will be commensurate with the tele-communications system operating effectively.” In other countries a 300 to 500 metre exclusion zone between high power base-stations and inhabited properties is observed.
Stewart report [section 1.19] “people can vary in their susceptibility to environmental hazards. It is not possible at present to say that exposure to RF radiation, even at levels below national guidelines, is totally without potential adverse health effects, and that the gaps in knowledge are sufficient to justify a precautionary approach”.
HAVE YOUR SAY ? If you have a base station going up next door, you might want to voice your concerns. You’d be lucky
to get the chance. Most people don’t find out till it’s too late, often being unaware for years that they are living with an unnecessary danger. The Federation Of Electronic Industries, of which
Vodafone is a member, has stated “operators will help ensure that local communities are better informed about applications made for new base station sites and have appropriate opportunity to make
their views known”. This simply does not happen.
INFORMATION There is no shortage of information on this subject available, the problem is having time to find and sort it.
This site aims to bring all this together along with information on our local campaign.

Holy Trinity Church case goes to Ecclesiastical Court
We are now fighting the Vodafone petition to be granted “a faculty” (listed buildings consent under the Church Ecclesiastical Exemption planning system). These are legal proceedings under the Consistory Court of the Diocese, control exercised by His Honour Judge Grenfell Chancellor of the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds. more
This is a test case health matters being the main issue, other Chancellors are awaiting the outcome. We need to provide legal representation and an Expert Witness, who can explain the health issues to the Court.
CAN YOU HELP US.....We have appointed physicist Dr. Gerard Hyland as our expert witness and now have to raise over £1500 by March.
Many local residents have already pledged amounts from £5-£100.
FUNDRAISING DONATIONS - please help if you can, to stop
the proliferation of mobile phone installations on churches countrywide, not just in Knaresborough. If we can win on health issues it is also a victory for heritage and morality.
