Dialogue with church

The Church Of The Holy Trinity (Church of England).

Their position seems to be that they want the money FULL STOP. This seems a strange attitude for people who call themselves Christians.
While we can understand their desire for money, church funding being such a problem, totally alienating the community, which they are meant to serve, seems ridiculous. Where ‘money for nothing is offered’ there is always a catch. Some residents have suggested ways of community fundraising in place of the installation. If the church made a sacrifice for the sake of the community then the community would be much more inclined to help the church.

Following articles published in the Knaresborough Post against the installation, the Holy Trinity Church Wardens letter was published in the Paper (Dec 8), in which they complained that residents had not gone to them first to express any concerns.

In reply we wrote “we are sure that not just ourselves, but many people, would have liked an early opportunity to express our concerns about having Vodafone microwave antennas on the church. We could not do so as the plans, apparently in the pipeline for two years, had been kept secret from nearby residents”. A couple of residents having contact with the church had heard of the plan, but had been told all was perfectly safe so took the matter no further.

The Rev. Ugwunna suggested a meeting with residents but the wardens “did not want a meeting where everyone could air their grievances”. The wardens have only offered to show us Vodafone’s plans and the site.
