Dear Editor,

Thanks to the huge response against the proposed mobile phone base station installation in the spire of The Church of the Holy Trinity, the Planning Dept. is now giving the matter due consideration. However if planning permission is refused, Vodafone can appeal to the Secretary of State (we have no right of appeal!) who unfortunately passes nearly 50% of these cases, as opposed to 27% of ordinary appeals. As it would be difficult to stop this on health grounds, objection letters to Councillors stressing the conservation issues would be helpful. Other people to write to include Phil Willis M.P. who is very supportive and the Bishop of Ripon, who could help to stop this.

We have recently learned that recommended maximum microwave exposure levels in Britain are 300 times greater than Europe and 3,000,000 times higher than Australia. Also the beam of greatest microwave intensity meets the ground between 50m and 200m from the transmitter depending on mast height, so people right by the church may not be the worst affected. Can you see the spire from your house?

We would like to thank everyone supporting us. We are prepared to fight to the highest level and free Councils to base planning decisions on health issues. Anyone with concerns or offers of help please contact us.
