FINAL FANTASY X NOT ONLINE

Square has announced that the upcoming Final Fantasy X is not going to feature PlayOnline compatability and instead will be released as a stand-alone PlayStation 2 title in Japan. Also, it will be announced that the launch of PlayOnline, which is Square's online gaming service, will be delayed. Square will be initiating internal tests of the service, beginning in March of 2001, with actual service beginning in Japan by winter of 2001. This testing on the online-exclusive Final Fantasy XI is stated to begin by winter of 2001, with service expected to begin in Japan by spring of 2002.

Also, a representative from Squaresoft revealed that it is currently studying bringing its software to the other next-generation consoles besides the PlayStation 2. The representative stated "We will make efforts in gathering information surrounding the next-generation gaming consoles than the Sony PlayStation 2 and take necessary actions accordingly."
