Hello Pam I have been in contact with this site early in 2002 where I stated that I have a deed relating to GRIBBIN dated 1255-1263 at GRIBBIN POINT and I have now found out that my wife seems to have connections in the area of GRIBBIN POINT as there is an Iron age fort nearby called castle DORE, her surname. I am still interested in anyone researching the name of GRIBBIN.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year - in Manx.
Still looking for more info on my SHIRLEY family from St.Germans Parish, particularly my GGrandfather John Walter SHIRLEY who married Mary GLANVILLE born 1854, died 1895 in Saltash, CON. She was the illegitimate child of Ann GLANVILLE from Saltash, CON.
Ann GLANVILLE married John HOSKING a fisherman from Saltash, and Ann's daughter Mary later took her step-father's surname of HOSKING.
Mary married my GGrandfather John Walter SHIRLEY ( ? born 1850 - ? died 1905 ).Mary & John W. married ? around 1872 - 1876 when there ? first child Lucy was born.
Lucy married Thomas Henry W. ROWSE R.N. at Torpoint, CON.
The years I am looking at are 1830 - to date.
I seem to be from the only SHIRLEY family in Cornwall though some wed/worked/lived across the Tamar in Plymouth, Devon.
Names connected to this family are:
Charles BENNETT - Clerk at HM Dockyards in 1916 and WILLCOCKS, who were Farmers at Tregantle Farm, Torpoint, CON.
Please contact me if you see a connection.
Terrific site, Pam.
Best Wishes for 2003

My father was born in Pompey, his father and family came from Brixham, Devon, but dad told me his ancestors were originally from Cornwall...they were pirates...coming from a Policeman I thought that was most amusing and I loved it! Have only found two people named Stabb in Cornwall; one from Lanlivery, the other a Mr Stabb! from Laxillion. Can't find that town/village even on a very detailed map. We came to Oz in 1954, so we're...well...almost Aussie except when it comes to Cricket and Rugby!!! Lovely site. I'll be back. Gawd...I miss England!

I'm looking for TRESIDDER. My grandfather was one of 14 children. The 2 girls remained in Cornwall as did my grandfather (ERNEST WILLOUGHBY TRESIDDER-although he did go to work in Salt Lake City 3 times) and I believe another brother. However the others left. One was a mine captain in California (WILLIAM TRESIDDER - he fell and died in the mine) and another went to New York as an opera singer. I think there was also another brother of the name ERNIE TRESIDDER who also went to America and mined for gold. What happened to the others no one knows. The family TRESIDDER originates from CAIRNE NR. CROWAN. All my family still live in Cornwall and my sister will be moving back next year. If you have the same name let me know!

Hello Barbara AMES of WISCONSIN USA. My wife is a descendant of the RB STEPHENS you mention. He is her GGGF. RBS set up a Buthers shop in CAMELFORD having originally come from LERRYN where his father was a Butcher and proprietor of the CROWN INN. The Tombstone of RBS and his Wife Maria can be seen in the Churchyard of Lanteglos by Camelford. Your GGF was the Brother of my wifes GGF and they were part of an eleven child family. Later relatives lived in ST Teath and then emmigrated to New Zealand in 1857. I'd love to research further back in time but this is proving difficult.

The only clues we have are the names, Prisk, Davey and Gundrey. There are over 100 pictures, taken at various photographers in Devon, Cornwall, Mineral Point Wis, Valparaiso Chile, if you need further information please contact me at the above address

Hi, Pam! Just using a link on your web site to check out the Cornish Tartan colors, etc and decided to do a little clicking around the site. Came to the Research Names area and looked up my Great Grandmother Ann Robins and see that it is listed as Robinson. Didn't know if that needed a bit of shortening...or maybe Robins and Robinson are kin? Anyway, read your Rabbit Page and noticed your comments about weather. Here in Florida we are now enjoying (?) 90's+F each day with humidity that ranges in the 80% range if it isn't actually raining. Don't complain too much about the cool. We could use some here.

We went to Stithians cemetery and found my ANDREW ancestors, Charlestown and St Austell were the HARRIS ancestors, but in Crowan, the cemetery is very overgrown with lots of creepers etc, and we found it impossible to find anything about the WITTO and BOSANKO, side of the family. Anyone who is also researching the above names, please e-mail me anytime.

Felicity Arthur in Wirrabara, South Australia at 5:37:12 Sunday March 17 2002
Samuel ARTHUR (tinner) b 1786-91 married Fanny b 1801-06
(Their second son was Samuel bap 13.2.1820 at Roche and married 9.6.1844 at Lanlivery to Jane PENGELLY. They emigrated to South Australia in 1847. Jane was the first daughter and second child of John PENGELLY and Jane nee PARKINS, of Trethevy.)
There seem to be two possibilities for Sam the elder. He might be ... 1. Samuel bp 24.7.1791 at Saint Minver, the sixth child of Samuel and Catherine ARTHUR, or 2. Samuel bp 25.3.1789 at Camborne, the second child of William and Jane ARTHUR.
Would love to hear from anyone who can help fill the gaps.
A wonderful site. Thank you.

I am researching my family history on my father's side. His father, James Masefield, was born on Shropshire in the late 1890's, his mother, Jessie (nee Davies), was born in Penzance/Newlyn, Cornwall in the 1890's. Her father was John Sampson Davies. Her siblings were: Ann (Margaret?), Maud, Robert (Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers, recipient of George Cross for saving St. Paul's Cathedral in WW II), and Thomas Edward(?). My father, James Desmond, was born in Penzance in 1921. If anyone knows anything about the Davies family, I'd love to hear from you. Thank you.

Great website.I am researching my great great grandparents CORNISH HOLMAN and WILLS families in parish of Perranarworthal (living in Greensplat and Tanners Downs)in the late 1700s/early 1800s. Several were copper miners and in mid 1800s 2 CORNISH brothers (William/Thomas/Fred or John) emigrated to Australia and their descendants fought in and survived WW1 (visiting their DUNCOMBE cousins in London on leave). Another brother emigrated to Canada. Any info gratefully received.

Very nice site... I am tracing my Cocking family - Thomas and Julia Cocking, both born early 1840's, who came to Virginia City Nevada sometime in the 1860's. Not sure exactly where they were from in Cornwall, but hope to find out. They married in about 1859 and had one son John before leaving Cornwall. Julia's brothers also went to US and were William b. about 1856, Thomas b. about 1848, John b. about 1850, and Elisha, b. after 1840. I dont see this name in any of the messages, but maybe someone will come along and see a connection.
I would like to become a member and am looking forward to applications being accepted soon. A trip to Cornwall is definitely on my "to do" list!
Good luck to everyone in their quests.
THANK YOU!

John and Alice came from prominent Bristol families (his father John Griffiths Trenerry was a lawyer and her father Edward Stock was a surgeon)so why they were reduced to penury has long intrigued us. John Garden Trenerry was born in Bristol in 1853. I have no idea when the family left Cornwall originally nor do I have any info on the patriarch John Griffiths Trenerry. HELP!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
