Patricia Stanton-Bersick in Texas, USA at 22:12:48 Monday May 24 2004
My Dad, GEORGE CONGDON HARRIS STANTON was born in E. Stonehouse, Cornwall, England 1911. His only sibling EDITH T M STANTON, was born 1913 in St  Germans. His fathers name was CYRIL CONGDON HARRIS STANTON, b. Millbrook, Cornwall, b.Abt.1898-99.He married ELLEN MAY DAWE. I've come to a dead end on her side. My Father had aunts and uncles from his fathers side. BARLY, EDITH, HAROLD, LEWIS, EDWARD and ELIZABETH. All born in Millbrook, Cornwall. CYRIL'S father was JOHN STANTON, married to CORDELIA. Another dead end on her side. John's siblings were: EDWARD, ROBERT, WILLIAM, SAMUEL B., ANN, MARY J. All born between 1852 and 1867, Maker, Cornwall. John's parents were EDWARD STANTON and ELIZABETH A. PARSONS, both born Maker, Cornwall. That's all I have found, for sure. I am the only living child of my Father's and I would love to meet any other relations from his life in Cornwall, England. My Dad was in the Royal Navy and while his ship was in San Diego, California, he missed the ships movement back to England and, to make a long story short, met my Mother and made a life here in the USA, never to talk much of his past life or see his England family again. I think of his life in England and the people he left behind often and wish I knew more, but he wouldn't say much at all. He only told me his sisters name, and his parents name, and thank God it was right. That's how I found his birth records, thanks to 2 very wonderful helpers from England that did some searching for me. Without their help, Id still be lost. If anyone has any of my names in their tree I'd love to hear from you. STANTON, DAWE, PARSONS, CONGDON, HARRIS. With Warm Regards to all of you, From a Cornish Descendent, Patricia May

I better introduce myself first. I am Val Fleming and the web co-ordinator for the WARATAH WEBSITE. I thought I would tell you a little about the project which has been underway here now for 2 years and it wasn't until last weekend when it was pointed out to me about the Cornish contribution here in Waratah that I thought I would tell you about the site. http://www.geocities.com/waratah_tasmania/list WARATAH was founded in 1871 by James SMITH when he discovered tin in the Mt Bischoff. It turned out to be the richest tin mine in the world and the majority of its labour were of Cornish decent. One the website is what I call WARATAH CONNECTIONS and it is really a big family tree of people who have lived here from 1871-2004 Your members may like to peruse the names. On the page is also the details of a wonderful new book about to be released called BARON BISCHOFF (James (Philosopher) SMITH and the Birth of Tasmanian Mining. It will be a wonderful resource book and will be interesting to those with Cornish Tin Mining background. Those who may wish to find out more will be able to email the author direct from a link on the WARATAH WEBSITE. http://www.geocities.com/waratah_tasmania/list Should any off your members ever travel over this way be sure to email me and I will be more than happy to give them an historic tour of the town. Best wishes Val Fleming WARATAH CONNECTIONS
