Paul Peter Piech

NO FLOWERS

No flowers if you’ve seen the fox again:

Flowers are for the fallen

Whose faltering souls have failed

To find signals of resurgence

In the sleek beast’s flash of red

As he flits across the city lawn.

That gleam of burnished pelt

Among last yellow leaves

Lets you into silent secrets

that carry weight and yet

Make light of passing life.
