Lichen Love

Verging towards the withheld we

you and I grow

separately aware

how abandoned

bodies still fevered

with phantoms

of early loving

suffer quicksilver lizards

of pulsing lust

as they slide beneath

flaming flesh

seeking the soul

and expire with the sigh

of desire.

Dryness invades us

and deadens us.

But look:

Those lizards have

Left a lichen trail - .

Muted colours gleam

washed in the rain

of renewing learning
