DISTRICT COUNCIL SUPPORTS FOREST SAVINGS SCHEME
Forest Savers Fund is supported
by the Forest of Dean District Council. The Council will act as an agent to
receive Forest Savers Fund member’s applications, saving and loan repayments
at the Councils’ One-Stop Shops in Cinderford, Newent, Lydney and the cash
office in Coleford.
At the launch of the service
held at the Cinderford One-Stop Shop in March 2003, Vice-Chair of the Council,
Mrs Lynn Sterry, said: “I am
pleased the Council could help this exciting new local finance service and hoped
that every family in the Forest would have a member in Forest Savers Fund.”
She praised the hours of training undertaken by the members of the
steering group who set up and continue to run the credit union.
The Financial Services Authority registered and will regulate the Board of Directors, as they accept savings and provide loans to all who live or work in the Forest of Dean. Ann Smallwood, Chair of Forest Savers Fund at the time, thanked the District Council for help given to achieve registration, by providing a grant to carry out the training, clerical support from Lynn Bentley, Community Development Assistant, and a room for meetings over the past three years.
