The Movie

  • This is done from Lizard's copy of the director's cut, which is a whole (gosh!) 8 minutes longer than my pirated ordinary version
  • Daniel's right about every thing he says in this lecture, the quarry inscriptions are very dodgy (and apparently really poorly spelled)
  • Do academics usually interrupt during lectures? All the ones I know are big for sitting very politely until the end, and then ripping you apart with searching questions
  • Why did the gate go to the Air Force in the first place? What tipped them off that it wasn't just an archaeological curiosity?
  • "Prove that your theories are right", of course you'll never actually be able to tell anyone you were right and they were wrong, but you'll know, and won't that be enough..?
  • Could they not have just taken him in the limo?
  • The name on his son's certificate is 'Tyler'
  • This always throws me, because that was Daniel, but that really isn't Jack
  • Daniel's allergic to the Air Force?
  • You'd think an academic could use a blackboard better than that
  • You can't radio-carbon date rock, and I doubt they found any associated organic material, or none that they kept anyway
  • Yep, Jack's right, no sense of humour
  • You need six points to accurately check a location in two dimensional space (on a flat map) as well, four to give you the location and another two to double check
  • That pen's never going to come off. I still have smears on my laptop from doing something similar
  • So, they know what the gate DOES, they just didn't know how to turn it on? That makes sense, but it doesn't tell us how they found out what it does, or how they had the equipment and the computers and the probes ready to measure the travel. How are they tracking that probe anyway?
  • Okay, so it has pressure and temperature, but you do really need to know exactly what pressure and temperature, because it can make a difference
  • Daniel has not been around the military long enough to know about the not volunteering
  • Jack's wearing a beret! But to balance that out, they're letting Daniel have a baseball cap
  • "Molecular deconstruction"? Again, how can they tell ? this may be good for the historians, but it's bloody nightmare for the scientists among us
  • Some ride huh?
  • Daniel nearly fell off the walkway then
  • Lots of muscular soldiers in vests (in case you missed them). Yay!
  • First encounters with the dreaded MRE
  • Jack wonders why he came back to work and traveled across the universe, just to watch a boffin make animal noises. He could have gone to the zoo for that.
  • "I met my father in law like this."
  • Has Daniel smelt many yaks?
  • Finally the most intelligent man on the planet seems to get the idea
  • 1987,690,320 permutations from any one gate  assuming there are 38 symbols on the gate plus the point of origin which never changes. That's a lot

  • Forget the coffee and hide. Leave the coffee behind? What kind of monster are you?

  • All the marines who've seen 'Predator' start to get worried

  • Even I can translate that, "See? Told you it was hot."
  • Jack O'Neil, linguist extraordinaire, "Guess the word dweeb doesn't mean anything to you guys."
  • Whilst having no sense of humour, Jack's still evil
  • Not terribly bright Ra's host
  • Two words, verbal history. Outlawing writing solves nothing
  • If you know six of the symbols, surely it wouldn't take too long just to try all of the others
  • Jack is ready for action, he's back in the beret again
  • Ra has jackal guards, taken from Anubis?
  • Nice little cut there so you don't have to see Ra shimmy round the throne
  • Have to declare an interest here, Ra is absolutely gorgeous, big crush on Ra. You do know that you fancy someone who not only can  pass a woman, but did for an entire film?
  • Jack seems visibly worried about Daniel dying here. He gets kinda used to it in a year or two
  • I forget just how much of this picture isn't in English, and in this version a lot of it isn't even subtitled
  • Yes, let's all rush manically out of our nice safe hiding place that they can't blow up, and out into the open desert where the death gliders can take pot shots at us for the next hour. I thought some of these people were professionals?
  • Ra's cow-horn headdress? Oh, the grand silly hat tradition starts here
  • Jack has an 'uh-oh we're screwed' moment
  • Now that's what I call reinforcements. Go Kasuf!
  • Great minds think alike
  • Kawalsky and Ferretti go with the flow
  • Oh yeah, he's gonna be fine...
  • How did they dial out from Abydos? The writers don't mention anything like a DHD
