Flatford Mill is quintessential lowland
England, thanks to the lasting influence of the painter John
Constable. Occupying attractive buildings leased from the National
Trust, the Centre is just over an hour from London and has excellent
road and rail access.
Fieldwork Opportunities
A superb environment for younger children to experience out of
classroom activities - which is matched by the possibilities
for older students. Ecology and conservation can be explored
in a wide range of woodland, freshwater and other habitats. Issues
such as lowland farming, sea level rise, hydro power, water quality
and leisure & tourism provide excellent material for geographical
investigations.
Accommodation
68 beds - students are accommodated mostly in shared rooms, with
singles available for staff.
Facilities
4 workrooms/laboratories, library, computer, recreation room,
shop, weather station, dark room, teachers resources (e.g.
Contrasting Locality pack).
"By the end of the week,
the students were using ecological terms in their everyday vocabulary
- quite an achievement!" |
