John (Vocals) and Will (Guitar) had performed in various cover bands for several years. John worked (day job) with Tony (Keyboards) who had been a professional musician for several years but hung up his boots after returning to the UK after living in Philadelphia. Their musical backgrounds became a subject for discussion and Tony was invited for a jam session with John and Will....and then there were three.....

People had (understandably) remarked how similar John's singing voice sounded to Phil Collins, so the three(as yet unnamed) decided to have a go at reproducing Phil Collins' songs. After a few rehearsals the three decided to form a tribute to Phil. The formative band called themselves "Not Seriously" playing with the title of Phil's hit album. The next move was to supplement the Phil Collins songs with a few Genesis hits. Further names were considered including "Band of Confusion", before they settled on after Phil's first solo album.

Twelve month's serious rehearsing followed before they decided that it was time to try out the sound on an unsuspecting public. Face Value received a great reception at their first gig from an admittedly local crowd, but this was incentive enough to work even harder to become a worthy tribute to the music of Phil and late period Genesis.

Face Value unashamedly play the hits of Phil Collins and Genesis. The popularity of the music has allowed the band to gain a widening fan base in the North of England with seven venues offering them regular gigs. They continue to work very hard to provide an authentic and accurate Phil Collins and Genesis sound, and are continuously increasing their repertoire to include such Genesis masterpieces such as "Domino" and "Home By The Sea".

Face Value were invited to perform on the Friday night at the G2 Genesis Convention in Guildford, Surrey. A great weekend was had by all, fans and tribute bands alike. All era's of Genesis music were catered for, with Face Value playing the 1978 - 1992 period including the classic " Many Too Many" from "And then there were three" which Genesis never performed live.

Many of you will have seen the Channel 5 documentary "The Genesis Songbook". Like many fans, Face Value were captivated by the acoustic version of "Afterglow" with Tony Banks on CP80 piano and Phil's voice. Face Value adapted the 30 second snip and used it to produce a full "Unplugged" version of the song. "Acoustic Afterglow" has now become a firm favourite wherever Face Value perform.

Thanks for taking an interest..........Hope to see you at a Face Value gig soon.
