The family likeness is still evident in the new, cheekier Clio, even though
it is essentially an all-new car. The only thing that's been carried over are
the engines, gearboxes, and an uprated 'Proactive' automatic transmission, and
the front suspension. The New Clio is only a few months old, and the model range
has been narrowed down. It runs as: Grande, RN, RT, and the range topping RXE.
Equipment levels are comprehensive on all versions, with every model even
featuring a height-adjustable steering wheel. The range levels follow virtually
an identical theme as the earlier Phase 3 Clios.
The car has new rear suspension, and is slightly bigger than it's
predecessors, with an emphasis on safety features, such as driver and passenger
airbags, side impact bars, seat belt pre-tensioners, ABS, and whiplash-reducing
headrests. On a pratical note, the Clio has composite (plastic) front wings and
polycarbonate headlights to reduce risk of damage and keep maintenance costs
down.
