My Clio 172

In July 2004 I did something I thought id never be able to do in a million years I bought a Renault Clio Sport 172. It Cost me £8,500 from Motorpoint in Derbyshire.

It is a 52 Reg with 6000 miles on the clock in Iceberg Silver. There was never a chance I could afford with my own money but i wasn't about to let this car go it this bargain price so I took a loan out with Northern Rock to pay for it and at a low monthly payment it is more than reasonable to pay for such an awesome car.

First impressions are its mega I thinks it's probably the best car I could have bought for the money its worth every penny and more,

  • Speed sensitive steering (Just how I like it, can feel what the car is doing),
  • Climate control (Keeps the car at what ever temperature you set it to),
  • Automatic Lights,
  • Rain sensitive wipers,
  • Full Xenon Head Lights.

are just a few features of the car.

Cars I thought about and test drove as well as a 172  was as follows:-

  • Citreon C2 VTR (Nice car feels quick but slower then most with a 0-60 of over 10 secs, love the gear box. Reason for not buying the dealer wouldn't play ball they were £2,000 dearer than Motorpoint, Cheshire Punto Center and Car Scoops,
  • MG ZR ( Went in the 104+ (Very nice but I would have want the 160 version but was too expensive),
  • Renault Clio 1.6 Dynamique+ (Similar to 172 but it isn't a 172).

The Service I got for Motorpoint wasn't really that good they charged me for things that wasn't necessary:-

  • Charged £25 for 2 new number plates but only replaced the rear,
  • Charged £62 for cleaning it and checking it over, it was dirty on the outside and the rear tyres didn't even have any pressure in them, there was even a drill bit in one of the tyres that is why it was flat.
  • And they charged £50 to fetch it from there Burnley site which they didn't tell me about as I said I'd fetch it from there because it's just as close, plus they drove it there instead of on a car carrier like they said they would.

The car has amazing performance I was not disappointed when I drove it for the 1st time:-

  • 2 Litre 16v VVT Engine,
  • 148 lbs feet of torque,
  • 195/45 R16 Wheels,
  • 0-60 Times vary from 6.9 to 7.2 (Will probably do my own time in time),
  • 35mpg (MPG doesn't really bother me at my age just want to have fun),
  • ABS with EBD,
  • Sports Suspension.

Will blast most things off the road I'm sure.

The only thing wrong with it to date is the button to change the display on the trip computer does not work but will get that fix under the warranty that is left on the car, so not really a problem.
