He has now scrapped the R5 Turbo badge and bought a new style Renault badge and he is hoping to buy a Sport badge from Renault off of the V6/172/182/Megane 225 for the opposite side.

Early on in 2004 he bought a brand new Holden GTS badge for the back of the car to go opposite his Renault badge he bought last year, which scraps his idea for the Renault Sport Badge.

He has also made some stuff him self for it which look rather cool a hand made leather gator, made and covered a parcel shelf out of leather and made some leather bits to cover the back of the boot door were the wiper motor is.

In June 2004 he has had the entire passenger side, Drivers side front wing and the boot door re-sprayed mainly due to scratches but there was also bits of rust starting to show under the windows in places.

He bought an air filter from Merlin Motorsport, which is called ITG, Which is the only company which did an air filter for his type of carburetor.

With his new exhaust and air filter the car as about 80bhp now which is up 8bhp from when I owned the car. He says it gets up hills better now without having to change down a gear as much as he had to before.

He has also bought and was awaiting to spray a Clio 16v look bonnet which would have looked cool once it was sprayed and fitted. Spent at lot of time trying to make it fit as the hinge bolts were no were near were they should be plus a few cracks to mend on the corners. He eventually got it to fit but he used bonnet pins in each of the corners which work alot better then they would have with the original fittings.

But just as he made it fit he decided that he wanted a new car so then sold the bonnet on Ebay and it was snapped up as it would be with being quite rare.

The places were he has bought stuff so far from are:-

  • Halfords

  • Motor Mania

  • Ebay

  • Motor World

  • Lark Speed

  • K-Tec Racing

  • Merlin Motorsport

The only problems he has had so far is:-

  • Center pipe needed replacing (fell off, rusted badly around welding on front box),

  • Left hand side light needed replacing (didn't come on at all),

  • 6" of welding on sill (abit of rust),

  • New CV boot (it was split),

  • New Ignition Amplifier.

He has now sold the R5 on now with 130000 Miles on the clock for £350 to another young man who will be driving it as his first car when he passers his test this month (April 2005), hopefully it will serve him well as it has me and Al.

Both of us were sad to see it leave its been a very good car indeed better than most new cars with all this computer controlled crap they have in these days which takes the fun out of driving.

It took quite a few months and test drives to decide which car Al would buy for his next car. The cars he drove were in order:-

  • MG ZR 105+

  • Citreon C2 VTR

  • Citreon C2 GT

  • Renault Clio 1.4 Mark II Phase 1

  • Renault Clio 1.4 Mark II Phase 2

  • Renault Clio 1.6 Mark II Phase 2

  • Renault Clio 1.5 Mark II Phase 2

  • Volkswagen Polo GTi

After thinking long and hard about which car was the best he went for a 52 Plate Renault Clio 1.6 at £5500 with 22000 Miles at a local garage (Appleyards). It was a bargain as soon as he sore it he wanted it.

He has already taken out the Renault stereo out and put his Sony CDX-MP40 CD/MP3 player which he had in the R5 in. He also plans to replace the speakers with Sony 3 way ones when we can find some all Halford's, Motorworld's, Wilco Moto Save's and local car audio shops were all sold out.
