TECHNOLOGY LESSON
Great. next its Technology.
I’ve got to rush
And join in the crush
Outside the Technology block.
The teachers stand ready
High spirits to steady
With words chosen carefully :-
“Get into line now,
Heads behind heads.
How many times have we said,
We need a space here.
It must be kept clear
In case of emergency.
What if there were a fire!
Can’t you see
How dangerous it could be?”
Calm is achieved now
We can proceed now.
But why do we always go last?
We enter the wonderful world of Technology.
Fingers crossed – practical?……..no, theory!
But theory becomes practicality.
Concentration gives way to activity.
The sounds of making fill the air :-
Sawing and sanding,
Spluttering and snipping,
Sizzling and spitting,
Gasps of apprehension,
Sighs of amazement,
Laughter at failures,
Smiles of satisfaction
At words of praise for a job well done.
The lesson is over when the bell rings.
Worktops must now be cleared of things.
And replaced
In the racks where they belong.
Bags in hand they’re ready to leave
But – “Sir, I need a few more moments – please.”
Either I’m too slow or time’s too fast
But what I do know is
I always go last.
