The
essential components are
Year
10 syllabus study augmented with
assignments both research
and
making.
Year 11 - Examination coursework - this is in three parts
Part 1 - Design Folder ( 30% )
Part 2 - 3D Model ( 30% )
End of course external EXAMINATION. ( 40% )
It is an exciting, enjoyable and challenging course and fits in
well with ART and DESIGN at GCSE.
Students can really explore almost anything as a focus in year 11.
As long as the choice will allow a model to be made it will be suitable as a
coursework project to address in year 11. The only proviso is the need to
produce a supporting design folder - which should be detailed enough to
illustrate evidence of the various aspects which need to be marked. ( RESEARCH
ANALYSIS SPECIFICATION ROUGH DRAWINGS FINAL DRAWINGS ETC. )
Ideas
which have proved popular are, HOUSING, CARS, AEROPLANES, WALKMAN, CAMERA,
FOOTBALL STADIA, MOBILE PHONES,
GARDENS, LEISURE CENTRES, HOTELS, GAME
CONTROLLERS ETC. More information is available on my website for Technology at http://www.geekie.co.uk/

Question Do
I need to be good at drawing.
Answer We have
had students get grade A who could not draw well at all. There are lots of ways
of communicating your design ideas without the need for superb drawings. Mr.
Geekie will advise students' individually regarding this.
Question Do I need any special materials such
as technical drawing pens.
Answer No. Equipment will be provided. It will always
be helpful to those students who wish to get some equipment of their own to
consider doing so however. This should include some basic modelling equipment.
Advice in detail will be given when the course starts.
Question I want to be an Architect / Product
Designer / Graphic Artist / landscape Architect will this course be relevant.
Answer Absolutely.
