South Lancashire Learning Disabilities Database started life in 1994, when MENCAP - WEST LANCS., started building a computer database of people with learning disabilities in West Lancashire. Also included were people living outside West Lancashire District who were being financially supported from within the District. They were funded by Joint Finance (South Lancashire Health)
MENCAP want to create a detailed picture of the people with learning disabilities, their problems, needs and aspirations. We believe that it is only by recording facts about people that we can find out what is needed and the problems which are faced by them and their carers.

In 2000, the Database was extended to cover the whole of South Lancashire, which includes Chorley and South Ribble Districts as well as West Lancashire. This has been done with the active cooperation of Chorley Mencap Society and funding from South Lancashire Health.
Over a 1000 people came forward and voluntarily provided their personal information. They saw this as an important first step in improving facilities.
Funding was from the Primary Care Trust (PCT) in Chorley and South Ribble and also West Lancashire PCT. Unfortunately, both sources of funding ceased during 2005 and we are now looking elsewhere. The Database has now reverted to just West Lancashire. Linda was made redundant at the end of June 2006.
