Aside from Shoelaces .....

A few years ago I decided on a 'Plan A' Perry Project. This involved learning how the napkins were folded at every restaurant visited and compiling a compendium of different folding techniques.

This collection would then be published (no doubt to much acclaim) with associated stories about the restaurants visited. In the book I'd probably explore the links to origami and perhaps to general table setting etiquette, as well as issues associated with the napkins directly - such as sizes, designs, materials and history.

But, fairly early on I hit a slight snag. Research revealed that there were already about a dozen books published on the subject. Why this should be I have no idea. Napkin folding had way passed its heyday and apart from some demand in the restaurant/hotel/catering trade I thought I was dealing with a lost art.

No matter, 'Plan B - Thoughts on the Shoelace' was soon hatched.
