THE PINK BATHTUB

One of the earlier Perry Products, this first graced the highways of England towards the end of 1990 after 5 years restoration and conversion work. Photos here are generally from around 2000 though, following minor repairs and some time confined to the Perry Products production facility.

The Pink Bathtub stayed with me until September 2006, when I sold it on eBay - somewhat bizzarely to a collector from Slovenia.

If you want further information on what it is and what it came from, a list of more technical data on components, or a summary of the production process, then get in touch.

General Information on the Pink Bathtub

Although it's included as a Perry Product, the Pink Bathtub started life as a MG Midget that underwent conversion to an Arkley SS kit at the main Perry Products research, development and production facility. The reason that it is classified as a Perry Product is that the creation process was much more than a specified set of actions with a set of defined components.

Briefly, the Arkley conversion was the product of thinking at the John Britten garage in Arkley in the early 1970's designed to give tatty MG Midgets a new lease of life. Production continued via Peter May Engineering in Birmingham from the mid eighties until the late 1990's. Around 1000 kits were probably sold, but no one knows how many exist now.

Information on the kit and a few examples are mentioned on the USA Arkley website, or at the Midget and Sprite Club site. There are a few other websites that mention them, many linked via these two.

The successor to the Pink Bathtub

One bathtub has been replaced by another, in the shape of a Lotus Elise. Whilst I can claim no credit for any aspect of this successor, the spirit of Perry Products is certainly similar to that at Lotus.
