The name Winskill probably comes from the Vikings, being Vins' Gill, meaning a hollow or dip in the land belonging to Vin. There is a village in Cumbria, in the north west of England, which bears the name Winskill not far from Keswick and close to Penrith, in the area of England known as the Lake District. We have visited the village and although it is a small village, the beauty of the area makes it a place to visit again. Using Burke's Peerage, we have learnt that the Winskill's have been scattered around the globe but the majority live in the UK, the highest concentration being in the Lancashire area, which is very close to Cumbria. Here are the numbers in the respective countries.
By clicking on the country of your choice in the left hand column, you may go to the relevant page and view more information about the Winskill's that live in those countries. If you are a Winskill and live in a country not listed, then click elsewhere for more information. |
