Arthritis & Rheumatism

Painful, stiff and swollen joints and muscles are common problems. The medical classifications for these conditions are complex and contain many categories in addition to the familiar ones of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. From our perspective, however, we do not need to concern ourselves with these but rather with the underlying imbalances. Once these have been established, then treatments are based upon these rather than upon specific medical classifications.

There are two systemic problems which occur again and again in actual clinical practise and solving these goes a long way towards relieving pain and stiffness, without having to resort to pain killers. These two imbalances are 1) Poor Circulation and 2) Acidity (please see separate articles), treated with circulation tonics and kidney detoxifiers.

When the circulation is weak, the pain and stiffness is usually better in the warmth or for warm applications, and better for gentle movement. With an acidic condition, however, the pains may not be relieved with warmth and often tend to move from place to place or be sharp in nature, and often worse in damp weather. If a general formula is to be recommended then both of these factors must be taken into account. It is also usual to add an anti-inflammatory herb and a mineral rich herb. This later factor is important since arthritis is often associated with demineralized conditions.

Three compounds are recommended below to meet these requirements. An additional compound is included for the related condition of Sciatica, where the sciatic nerve is trapped and causes intense pain.

Circulatory - Ginger & Guaiacum Compound
Acidity - Betula and Celery Complex
General - Prickly Ash and Burdock Compound
Sciatica - Willow Complex
