The Goons were a group of english (and welsh) comics who performed due to a lack of food. In the early days there were four. Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe and Michael Bentine. It was called 'Crazy People' about which they were not happy. A few series in, Bentine left, leaving three goons (in a fountain) and the programme was renamed 'The Goon Show.' The show featured many characters, who are listed below, along with some of their catchphrases. The goon show was much more than silly voices and catchphrases, with anarchic humour, and a deep logic behind many of the things that went on. Appearing here shortly will be classic goon clips, but for now here is a bio of the main (or at least the ones I've remembered) characters.
