Nanci Griffith was born on July 6th, in Sequin, Texas. She learned to play guitar, and began writing her own songs, because it was easier than learning other peoples. Her first professional gig, was on a Thanksgiving holiday evening, in Austin, when she was fourteen. Nanci graduated with an Education degree and taught in Austin schools during the 70's. Her first recorded songs appeared on a sampler for a now defunct Texas label. She was married to Eric Taylor who appears on 'One fair summer evening.' She was later engaged to Tom Kimmel, but didn't marry him. Nanci is currently single, and spends her time at her six-acre farm in Franklin, a flat in Dublin, Ireland, or wherever she's standing at the moment.
