After all these years... Just a note to let you know that my new blogs are Bytes: Rebooted and I remember... And that peach you left in the icebox... Tuesday, February 19, 2002
Have just checked the email from UKOnline and it said new measures were coming in on February 18. So here is another test... (that was written at 2:44 on Feb 19 and didn't upload to web site. But it is sitting on Blogger so will repost when logged on from home - looks as if i will have to put blog on genie web site if it's still available) Sunday, February 17, 2002
Well that's strange. It has worked even though I submitted it from work - not using the dial-up number. Oh well. If I ever replace my motherboard (and if that actually does turn out to be why my main PC just sits and bleeps at me) I will try to be more bloggerish in my blogs...
Good grief - another nearly two months has passed without an entry. And I have been surfing continually throughout that time. Well perhaps not continually. And the main reason for this entry is that I have just heard that my favourite ISP UKOnline will only let us upload using our dedicated dial-up number, so I am not expecting this to work... Happy Christmas. Two recommendations: I typed "molesworth" into my Google Toolbar (that's three recommendations!) and within seconds had found St Custard's. Situated half-way between Bunter and Lindsay Anderson's film If... the site is a must for anyone who had to learn Latin - and doesn't regret it. The Prairie Home Companion's December 22 edition has a Taliban spoof at 31:59, with a certain someone, for example, declaring a jihad on the pizza delivery boy because the "free pizza if you have to wait too long" offer doesn't count in the Tora Bora etc, etc -- the reason I mention it being that I am glad Americans are getting their sense of humour back -- no thanks to the president... If only to try and get some momentum going again -- a quick post. Next week I am off having finished a week working nights, so armed with another couple of weeks of free connection from AOL I shall hopefully post some more. In the meantime -- proof that girls are evil! Thursday, October 25, 2001
Well -- it's been a while. I never had any doubt the World Wide Web would become a popular rather than an exclusive or commercial club. I would like to think the aftermath of September 11’s terrorist attacks on the United States proves me right. Sites that increased in popularity throughout September include The Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan and Islamic Gateway. One of the best sites I have seen concerning the atrocities and their aftermath is the web log World New York. Its World Trade Centre Disaster page has personal stories, photos, eyewitness video and information. Among the individual accounts, Mookie’s is, at this distance, startling in its thirst for revenge, while the photo essay by Grace Suh is more thoughtful, and includes the extraordinary WH Auden poem September 1, 1939. Like I said, this is terrible. Two days to go and it's June and this is only my second blog of the month. I have been busy, honest! As far as recommendations go I guess it will have to be Park Wars: The Little Menace, which apparently has been welcomed by both George Lucas and Matt Stone & Trey Parker. You see, it's a spoof of Star Wars with the South Park characters taking the parts. Oh yes, and the United Devices cancer research project (see my archives, April 5) works fine in the background on my machine. Do download it. Saturday, May 19, 2001
Well - this is terrible. More than half way through the month and this is my first blog. But then I have been busy. Was going to recommend Audio Galaxy - which is still pretty neat, and both faster than Napster (RIP) and better for finding more obscure music. But then I read all about spyware and adware - programs downloaded on to your PC which monitor your Web usage and send off information about you for advertisers to make use off. And Audio Galaxy is apparently a culprit. Anyway, here are a couple of places where you can find out more about spyware -- a geeknews article and a ZDNet article. And here are a couple of sites where you can check whether you are affected -- Lavasoft, where you can download Ad-aware, a freeware spyware detector, database and removal tool, and Spychecker, where you can type in a program's name and find out if it is known spyware. |
