Season 1996/1997 poll results

Thanks to everyone who sent in their poll results.

GENERAL

1) Hearts player of the year 1996/97
(Last years winner Gilles Rousset)

1. Davie Weir 83%
2. John Robertson 13%
3.= Colin Cameron 2%
3.= Neil McCann 2%

Big Davie had an outstanding debut season and fully deserved his Scotland call. Colin Cameron would have surely given Davie a better run for his money if he had put away some of the sitters he missed after the new year.

2) Young player of the year 1996/97
(Last years winner Paul Ritchie)

1. Gary Naysmith 43%
2. Paul Ritchie 24%
3. Neil McCann 16%
4. Jim Hamilton 11%

A promising debut season from Gary Naysmith, not least his performance against Celtic in the Coca Cola Cup quarter final.

3) Best Hearts match 1996/97

1. New Years Day (4-0) 45%
2. Coca Cola Cup Final 29%
3. Coca Cola Cup Q-Final 24%
4. Hibs away (3-1) 2%

New years day was a classic, and if we are truthfull, so was the cup final. While it all ended in tears, it has to be one of the best ever second half performances.

1. 0-0 Aberdeen 12/4/97 34%

10) If Hearts had half a million to spend, who would you buy?

Here's the realistic ones!

Graham Hyde (Sheff Wed), N.Lennon (Leicester), Danny Lennon, John Moncur (West Ham), Phil Scott (St. John), Graeme Jones (Wigan), Orloffson (Dundee United), a replacement for Fulton, a promising young striker, a midfielder, Paul Bernard (Aberdeen), Stevie Crawford, Robbie Winters, Ricky Gillies (quite a few votes for him), Gary McSwegan, Paul Ritchie (Hamilton), Gary Smith, Rougier, Jason Dair, Stephen Glass, Derek McInnes (quite a few votes for him aswell) and finally Cantonna (he would be free). There were a few votes for Paul Lambert - keep dreaming lads.

11) On a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is really crap and 10 is god like how would you rate the current board?

I didn't know what to expect from this question. When I added up the total numbers and divided by 82, the score was an average 6.3, which on the face of it seems to be "adequate without being great". There were a lot of people who gave them either 6 or 7 out of ten. There were some comments along with the scores

"Secretive bastards" was one spot on comment. "After Mercer I appreciate them" was another. Another good one which was mentioned by several people was "dont like their attitude towards their fans". The lowest score was 3 and the highest 9.

12) Jim Jefferies was the Messiah on his arrival, how Messiah-Like is he now (on a scale of 1 - 10 where 1 is crap)

Jimbo got an average score of 7.8 which is pretty good. Most people gave him 8 out of 10 and someone even gave him eleven out of ten!

13) Should the club designate a singing area to improve the atmosphere?

Erm, this one was missed out of the actual fanzine, but from what I can gather it was given nearly 100% backing. Just a pity that Robinson/Deans etc didn't see it that way.

15) What is the most nauseating thing about the old firm?
(note that all the answers were received before the Rangers game)

1. The bigotry

9. Glory hunting bastards
10. Celtic Paranoia
11. They are very selfish
