SECTION G - GO FOR IT !
What would it take to have a singing section? A year ago, Hearts asked us and we all said we wanted one, so what happened? There are two stumbling blocks to having a singing section. Firstly, a couple of years ago they asked people to purchase 5 year season tickets for a special deal, and these people have their names on their seats. Secondly, there are regular season ticket holders who have a right to have the same seat every season if they want to. So, two problems to overcome.
A singing section has to be away from kids, so section A is out, therefore section F or G seems appropriate. Section G by my reckoning will have few 5-year holders, since it is not prime viewing. There will be some season ticket holders who will not fancy a singing section, so they may need a little incentive to move. In my experience, only people who currently sit among friends would be reluctant to move unless their friends go too. This is a logistical problem a £50,000 computer system could overcome with ease.
My vision is that in the first season this will meet with limited success, the end result being that some of the boring farts who contribute little to the atmosphere will decide not to renew their tickets for Section G and will move to section B or C, thus freeing up valuable tickets for singers in the next close season.
Getting a "singing" section is not something Hearts or Chris Robinson are going to help us with so we are going to have to force the issue. I've noticed that section F sing a lot, so there's potential in that part of the stadium. If you are a singer and a non-season ticket holder you can infiltrate Section G. In time, like a virus, singers will spread and it may take six years, but the cardboard cutouts will start to feel left out and will decide to move further to section A or B.
Think about this for a minute - three years from now, once we have taken over Section G and a good proportion of section F, then there's no excuse for not having at least a drum in section G of the Wheatfield stand
While we're on about the atmosphere, who is going to be the first to start the Dutch sway (co-ordinated movement while sitting down). I thought it was brilliant when they did it in France 98.
