Workshops and Residences in Schools

Christmas Youth Dance Project
Lucky pupils from five Greenwich schools wokred with Retina Dance Company in December 1999. We are delighted that this project will be repeated during the Autumn Term 2000.

Random Dance Company
Random Dance Company will be resident in Greenwich Secondary Schools, 2 -11 October, to hold a ground breaking Internet dance education project linked to its installation performance at GDA 12-15 October. Workshops with students will explore the relationship between dance and technology.

National Youth Dance Company (NYDC)
In March, NYDC performed a lecture demonstration at five Greenwich schools. Due to popularity GDA is pleased to confirm that NYDC is returning inthe Spring Term 2001 to offer workshops and to perform it latest programme of works especially for Greenwich Schools.

Magpie Dance and Physical Recall Dance Company
Magpie Dance, a company of adults with learning difficulties, in collaboration with Physical Recall will be offering workshops to special and mainstream schools. These workshops will be linked to the companies performances at the Purcell Room, South Bank Centre, in May 2001.

After School Dance Activity

After School Dance Clubs
St Paul's After School Dance Club celebrates its first anniversary and GDA is keen to establish further After School Danc eCLubs at both Primary and Secondary Schools in Greenwich.

Children Dancing
The sixth annual showcase celebrating Children Dancing was held in July at Crown Woods School, for Primary Schools in Greenwich. This fun and informal event provides Greenwich Primary school children with an opportunity to perform and share their work and encourages participation at all levels. Your school could be involved in Children Dancing 2001.

Support, Development & Training for Teachers

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
GDA was pleased to host a training day with Jacqueline Smith-Autard in June looking at the use of ICT to teach dance in the curriculum. Since this resource will soon be available for Greenwich Schools, GDA hopes to offer follow up sessions later in the academic year.

TOP Dance
This will be introduced to Greenwich Primary Schools. TOP Dance is a continuation of the TOPs Programme, proving support and training for teachers delivering Physical Education in the Primary curriculum. GDA is pleased to be hosting an initial training day on 3 October 2000 and will be supporting the Laverne Barber (PE Inspector, Greenwich)delivery of TOP Dance in Greenwich schools. GSCE Support Group
Sessions continue to be held each term, in collaboration with Laban Centre London. The Group is for those already teaching GCSE and for those teaching in Secondary education who are interested in teaching GCSE Dance. New members are welcome so why not get your name added to the GCSE Support Group mailing list.

Education Resource Library
GDA is delighted to announce the opening of its new library offering Greenwich teachers:

  • dance education resource material for Primary and Secondary
  • video, audio and CD Rom resources
  • newsletters, updates and dance company literature
  • reports and guidelines
